Ladbrokes and Gala Coral Merger Prompts Questions

When combined, Ladbroke and Gala Coral account for 45% of the UKs high-street book makers. While joining forces may at first sound as though it would be a successful merger, the Competition Markets Authority has the right to demand that they close 15% (or 1,300) of their live shops if the merger goes through, according to a report from U.K’s The Week.

This is because, in an effort to promote a fair marketplace, one entity is not allowed to have more than 30% of the market share once combined. So this raises the question—why merge?

Twin River Casino Wants to Double Subsidy for MarketingPrivate owners of the state operated casino at Twin River want lawmakers to increase the subsidy for the casino’s marketing efforts in Rhode Island from $3.7 million to $7.3 million a year, reports Providence Journal. They argue that more marketing money will mean more revenue for the facility and state. They ask lawmakers to back a bill that would potentially double the state’s share of those costs.

Currently, the state contributes $3.7 million, the first $4 million comes from Twin River, and then the state pays a share as marketing expenses run from $4 million to $10 million. The bill would create a second tier of marketing expenses, with Twin River covering expenses from $10 million to $14 million and the state’s expenses from $14 million to $20 million.

888 Flips The Switch on iGaming in Delaware888 Holdings announced Tuesday that iGaming in Delaware is now live.

Through the European online and mobile gaming giant’s platform, Delaware residents of legal age can now enjoy digital poker, table games, and slots from their home computers and mobile devices.
