Churchill Downs Investment in Big Fish Games Already Paying OffIn 2014, Churchill Downs acquired social gaming powerhouse Big Fish Games. While some weren’t sure if this move was the best fit, it is already paying off.

According to their second quarter revenues highlighted by Louisville Business First, Churchill Downs saw an increase of 35 percent—which totals over $409 million dollars.

A large portion of that growth came from Big Fish Games, which grew by 40 percent when compared to the same quarter last year.

While the social games from Big Fish Games are free to sign up and play, revenues are earned by offering add-ons. This includes additional features, more lives, and access to new levels. Social gaming is also fun because gamers can play against their friends, which is often linked to Facebook

Churchill Downs plans to continue to grow and expand their social gaming products, and is also prepared for the popularity of social gaming to grow at a less accelerated rate at some point down the road.

Churchill Downs CEO Bill Carstanjen “But I think also you just have to expect over time, you’ll see deceleration in growth,” he said. “The social casino space isn’t going to grow forever at the rate it has been.”
