Those credit card sized plastic “room keys” could soon be a thing of the past.
Because here comes The Cromwell, where guests can now check in and open their room door with their smartphone. It’s the very first Vegas hotel to offer the service.
The Cromwell, the only standalone boutique hotel on the Las Vegas Strip, worked with Kaba, a provider of access control solutions for the hotel industry, to effect the change.
“Kaba’s mobile access system is based on the cloud service set up by security firm Legic Identsystems, a subsidiary of Kaba,” according to Travel Pulse.
Cromwell company execs are crowing.
“With this ground-breaking Kaba hotel locking system, which opens hotel locks in less than a second, guests can enjoy a completely new and intuitive experience that very much suits The Cromwell’s unique ‘modern meets vintage’ style,” said Alastair Cush, head of Kaba Lodging’s global business development division.
After a reservation is made, Cromwell guests receive a link to The Cromwell app and an access code on their iOS mobile devices. Guests can simply download the app, enter their ID numbers, and place their smartphones next to the lock. Presto! The door will open. This mobile key –or “eKey” — can also be used to activate the hotel elevator traveling to guestrooms.
“Kaba also prides itself in its mobile access system being secure,” notes Travel Pulse. “According to Kaba, mobile access authorizations are encrypted in the Kaba system using the Legic ID Connect cloud solution, then transferred to the guest. They can only be decrypted within the hotel lock of the room, ensuring safe and convenient access.”
Now Caesars is gearing up to deploy a full-scale launch of self check-in that will combine online and mobile means with kiosks for a fluid check-in and checkout experience.
