Urban traffic congestion sign saying Expect DelaysThe Gambling Licensing and Advertising Act was set to commence in the UK on October 1st, but the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) has had to delay legislation due to an accusation from the Gibraltar Betting and Gaming Commission (GBGC).

Gibraltar is challenging the UKGC, claiming that the new legislation is not being put in place for consumer protection but only as a way to generate additional revenue.

On top of the initial £19,500 online casinos must pay for their new license, they must also pay an annual fee of £118,000. In addition, they will be subject to a 15% Point of Consumption tax.

Gibraltar feels these fees are far in excess of providing consumer protection, and are meant to generate revenue more than anything else.

The goal is to have a resolution by November 1, says Online Casino Reports. But if not, the date may be pushed back once more.
