You can ban it, but that doesn’t mean you will stop it. That’s the what James J. Murren, the CEO of MGM Resorts International, said Friday when discussing a potential federal ban on online gambling in the United States.

The words “online gambling,” “Facebook,” and “Oculus” haven’t been used together in many sentences lately, but perhaps they should be.

If there’s one problem (okay, there are actually many but we’re just focusing on this one for right now) with the freshly regulated online gambling industry in New Jersey, it’s that it’s been poorly marketed to residents of the Garden State in the last five months.

As mGamingWatch reported in February, the Philadelphia 76ers of the NBA and the New Jersey Devils of the NHL recently became the first major U.S.-based professional teams to sign a sponsorship deal with an online gambling company.

Marking a monumental opportunity for proponents of online gambling and, in particular, online poker, a bill has been introduced in New York state that would effectively make New York the fourth state in the union to permit legal online gambling, but only with regard to poker.
