I’ll admit it – I’m a sucker for LEGO creations that nail character design, and this Tow Mater MOC by besbasdesign absolutely crushes it. Spotted recently on Rebrickable, this build takes the lovable, rusty tow truck from Disney Pixar’s Cars and translates him into brick form with uncanny accuracy. The 413-piece creation captures everything that makes Mater instantly recognizable, from his patchwork body panels to that signature goofy grin with the prominent buck teeth. What’s particularly impressive is how the designer managed to maintain the cartoonish proportions while still creating a structurally sound model that fits perfectly alongside the upcoming Lightning McQueen set (77255) launching in January 2026.

If you’ve ever tried building vehicle MOCs at this scale, you know capturing personality ranks among the hardest challenges. Cars characters present a unique problem since their entire personality lives in the vehicle itself. Besbasdesign solves this brilliantly with custom stickers (soon available from brickstickershop) that transform the windshield into Mater’s expressive eyes and add authentic “Tow Mater” signage to the doors. The combination of those stickers with the expertly crafted physical form creates a build that feels pulled straight from Radiator Springs. The build even includes the A-113 Easter egg on the license plate, a detail hardcore Pixar fans will appreciate.

Designer: Besbasdesign

The color work on this MOC is just technically flawless. I’ve seen countless attempts at replicating Mater’s weathered appearance, but most builders either go too uniform or too chaotic. This version nails the balance with strategic placement of different brown tones interspersed with blue panels that mimic Mater’s mismatched, salvaged look. The designer understands that Mater isn’t randomly rusty; his design tells the story of a truck that’s been pieced together over decades of service. The model measures approximately 8.0 × 18.8 × 9.3 centimeters (or about 3.2 × 7.4 × 3.7 inches), making it substantial enough for display while remaining compatible with Speed Champions scale vehicles.

Technical execution is top notch, particularly in the functional tow assembly. Unlike many LEGO tow trucks where the mechanism is purely decorative, this one features a working hook attached to a pivoting arm. The assembly uses gray Technic beams and connectors to create a sturdy rig that maintains the cartoon aesthetic without sacrificing functionality. The consistent use of SNOT (studs not on top) techniques around the front end creates the rounded shaping essential to Mater’s friendly face. Clever parts usage extends to the roof-mounted warning lights, built from transparent orange elements rather than relying solely on stickers.

The instructions for this MOC cost €6.50 on Rebrickable, which feels like a bargain considering the quality of the design and the PDF documentation. The built-in parts finder on Rebrickable streamlines the process of sourcing the 413 elements needed. You could technically build this using bricks from approximately 3-4 mid-sized LEGO sets, though specialty elements like the wheels and some of the curved pieces might require specific hunting. The investment yields a display piece that achieves something official LEGO Cars sets have struggled with, personality and screen accuracy at a reasonable scale. Now I’m just wondering if besbasdesign has plans for the rest of Radiator Springs. A Sally Carrera or Doc Hudson built to this standard would certainly find a spot on my shelf next to Mater.

I am not, and probably never will be, a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) person, as I lean more toward the arts and humanities. However, I will always appreciate the breakthroughs and innovations made in this field, as they have profoundly affected our lives, whether or not we fully understand them. Over the years, there has also been a push to get kids, especially girls, interested in STEM-related courses and projects.

If you’re an adult who loves STEM, or a parent wanting to spark a child’s interest in any of these fields, the new LEGO® Ideas collectible display is for you. Called The Evolution of STEM, it showcases some of the most historic innovations in science through mini-builds displayed on an open book buildable base. As you create these builds and display them later, you’ll be reminded of important milestones in scientific and human history.

Designer Name: LEGO®

This collectible for adults features several mini-builds that celebrate innovation. You get to build an early car, the earliest version of a home computer, and the NASA Voyager Probe with the Golden Record, among others. There are also interactive elements, like a 3D replica of a carbon atom that floats upwards and a DNA strand that rotates just by turning a dial. Plus, there’s a Morse code message hidden within the builds. Some of the mini-builds you can create include Newton’s apple tree, Carver’s plant bed, a space shuttle, and a robotic arm.

You also get three LEGO® minifigures of some of the most famous scientists: Marie Curie (mother of modern physics), Sir Isaac Newton (leader of the Scientific Revolution), and George Washington Carver (agricultural science pioneer). It would have been nice to see even more scientific heroes as minifigs to honor the STEM trailblazers of our day. Still, there’s plenty to enjoy in finishing this collectible display build, especially if you’re a science and history geek.

As with many wonderful builds like this, it started as a winning entry in a LEGO® contest, where people were asked to submit ideas for celebrating the wonder of STEM. ZeusBricks created “Knowledge is Power,” and from there, the LEGO® team added more details and refined the elements. It’s always inspiring to see how collaboration between fans and designers can bring such creative concepts to life. With each new set, LEGO® continues to prove that learning and play can go hand in hand, sparking curiosity and imagination in builders of all ages. Here’s hoping for more fun and educational builds like this in the future!

September 2025 was one of those months that reminded us why we fell in love with LEGO in the first place. From custom builds that pushed technical boundaries to official releases that captured pop culture magic, builders around the world delivered creations that left us genuinely impressed. The variety was staggering – rally cars with working engines, coffee machines that actually brewed espresso, and basketball sets that made you want to shoot hoops.

What made these builds special wasn’t just their complexity or piece counts. Each one told a story, whether it was honoring motorsport legends, celebrating street culture, or bringing animated music videos to life. These weren’t just impressive displays of building skill – they were love letters to the things that matter to their creators. The passion behind each build was unmistakable, transforming plastic bricks into something meaningful and genuinely exciting.

1. TOMOELL’s Colin McRae Subaru Impreza WRC: Rally Legend in Brick Form

Rally racing doesn’t get much more iconic than Colin McRae’s Subaru Impreza WRC, and TOMOELL’s brick recreation captures everything that made this car a legend. The deep blue body with classic “555” livery graphics, those unmistakable gold wheels, the aggressive hood scoop, and that rear wing – every detail screams 1990s championship glory. This isn’t just a model car; it’s a tribute to one of motorsport’s greatest eras, built with the kind of attention that only comes from genuine passion.

The builder clearly spent serious time getting the proportions right, and it shows in every angle. The car sits with that perfect rally stance, looking ready to tear through a forest stage at any moment. What really sets this apart are the working features – a hood that opens to reveal a detailed boxer engine, a trunk with a spare wheel, and steering that actually turns. It’s interactive in ways that bring the whole experience to life.

2. CorporalSpikyCockroach’s LEGO Nespresso Machine: Brewing Up Brick Magic

Sometimes, the most delightful LEGO builds are the ones that take everyday objects and transform them into something unexpectedly charming. CorporalSpikyCockroach’s Nespresso machine does exactly that, turning your morning coffee ritual into pure brick-building joy. The builder nailed all the details that make a Nespresso instantly recognizable – the sleek proportions, the pod insertion lever, even that distinctive modern aesthetic that coffee machines have embraced in recent years.

What makes this build special is its completeness. This isn’t just a coffee machine sitting alone – it’s a whole coffee experience in miniature. The tiny espresso cup with golden coffee inside, the multiple pods ready for brewing, and even the drip tray catch your attention. You find yourself wishing it actually worked, though the building experience probably gives you just as much satisfaction as that morning caffeine hit would provide.

3. LEGO’s Official Nike Collaboration: Slam Dunk and Trickshot Sets Take the Court

LEGO’s partnership with Nike hit nothing but net this September with two basketball-themed sets that perfectly capture street culture energy. The collaboration feels authentic rather than corporate, probably because both brands understand what makes basketball culture so compelling. These aren’t just sneaker displays – they’re dynamic scenes that tell stories about athletic achievement, urban creativity, and that perfect moment when skill meets opportunity on the court.

The Slam Dunk set freezes that magical moment when a player hangs in the air, defying gravity just long enough to posterize the competition. The articulated figure lets you recreate different poses, from the initial leap to the rim-rattling finish. Meanwhile, the Trickshot set gets wonderfully surreal, with a minifigure launching from inside a Nike Dunk sneaker toward an unseen basket – pure basketball fantasy made tangible through clever design.

4. LEGO Star Wars Death Star Ultimate Collector Series: The Dark Side’s Greatest Achievement

When LEGO decides to go big, they really go big. The Death Star Ultimate Collector Series isn’t just large – it’s massive, demanding, and absolutely worth every piece of the 9,023-brick journey. This isn’t your typical spaceship model that sits on a shelf looking pretty. It’s a vertical empire of scenes, memories, and movie magic stacked into one towering tribute to the original Star Wars trilogy that commands attention from across the room.

Standing over 20 inches tall, this beast recreates iconic locations from all three original films inside its spherical frame. The trash compactor, Palpatine’s throne room, Leia’s cell – they’re all here, waiting to transport you back to those first moments of Star Wars wonder. Building this feels less like assembling a model and more like constructing a piece of cinema history, one brick at a time, with each section bringing back memories.

5. Shirbler’s Gorillaz Flying Windmill Island: Feel Good Inc. in LEGO Form

Music videos rarely translate well into physical form, but Shirbler’s Flying Windmill Island proves that some concepts are too good to leave in 2D. This recreation of the iconic location from Gorillaz’s “Feel Good Inc.” captures both the melancholy and whimsy of the original animation. The floating island concept works perfectly in LEGO form, where impossible architecture becomes completely natural and surprisingly touching, especially with that working windmill mechanism.

At around 1,800 pieces, this hits that sweet spot where ambition meets achievability. The working windmill mechanism isn’t just for show – it’s essential to the experience, bringing kinetic life to what could have been a static display. Watching those brown lattice blades turn while 2D sits lonely at the island’s edge creates a surprisingly emotional connection to the source material that few LEGO builds manage to achieve.

Looking Back on an Incredible Month

September 2025 reminded us that LEGO culture has never been stronger or more diverse. These five builds represent different corners of the community, from technical automotive enthusiasts to pop culture storytellers, from official collaborations to deeply personal fan projects. Each one brought something unique to the table, whether it was engineering innovation, creative part usage, or just pure joy in recreating beloved subjects with plastic bricks.

What struck us most about this month wasn’t just the technical skill on display, but the genuine passion behind each creation. These builders weren’t just showing off – they were sharing pieces of themselves, their interests, their memories, and their dreams. That’s what makes LEGO building more than just a hobby. It’s a way of connecting with the things we love and sharing that connection with others who understand the magic found in possibility.

As the calendar flips closer to Halloween, the usual suspects in home decor start to appear: plastic skeletons, cotton-ball cobwebs, and oversized inflatable pumpkins. For those of us who like to build our own decorations, the season often means turning to official LEGO sets like the haunted house or various spooky BrickHeadz. These are fun, to be sure, but the really interesting stuff often comes from the fan community, where builders are free to create whatever horrors, or in this case, arachnids, they can imagine. One such project is a brilliant and frankly unsettlingly realistic tarantula model that’s been making waves online.

What we’re looking at is a custom creation submitted to the LEGO Ideas platform by a builder known as Realestateagent. LEGO Ideas, for the uninitiated, is the company’s official crowdsourcing site where fan designs can be voted on; if a project gets 10,000 supporters, it enters a review phase where it could become an actual retail set. This particular tarantula stands out immediately for its lifelike posture and texture, achieving a look that feels far more organic than you’d expect from a pile of hard plastic bricks. It’s a build that perfectly captures the creepy-crawly spirit of the season, and it does so with a level of design ingenuity that deserves a closer look.

Designer: Realestateagent

The real masterstroke here is the parts usage, a concept LEGO fans call “NPU” or Nice Part Usage. The builder has used the common brown bush or plant piece to simulate the fine, bristly hairs, known as setae, that cover a tarantula’s legs. This is an inspired choice. The piece itself has a spiky, multi-pronged shape that, when layered repeatedly along the legs, creates a fuzzy, almost bristly texture that perfectly mimics the real thing (there’s a close-up image below). It’s a clever, outside-the-box application of an existing element that elevates the entire model from a simple representation to a detailed sculpture. This is the kind of creative problem-solving that defines the best custom LEGO builds.

Beyond the clever aesthetic, the model is also a neat bit of engineering. Composed of around 410 pieces, the tarantula is fully poseable. Making a spindly, eight-legged creature that doesn’t immediately collapse under its own weight is a real design challenge, requiring strong joints and a balanced center of gravity. According to the creator, the inspiration struck when they saw the brown bush pieces on a Pick-a-Brick wall at a LEGO store, and the project grew from there. The body uses a mix of curved slopes and tiles to create a more rounded, organic shape, with varied coloring that adds visual depth and realism.

Newly submitted to the LEGO Ideas forum, this LEGO Tarantula is currently looking for votes from the broader LEGO community so that it gets turned into a real, buyable box set. If you’d love to see that happen, give this MOC (My Own Creation) your vote on the LEGO Ideas website! However, the process from vote to retail set is often longer than one would expect, so if you’re in a bit of a rush to get your halloween decor in order for the year, there’s a PDF file on the Rebrickable website with detailed instructions.

Adult car enthusiasts face brutal reality daily. The 1994 Audi RS2 Avant costs $80,000+ today. Finding clean examples means hunting unicorns. Most gearheads will never drive this turbocharged wagon legend.

Designers: Audi + Mattel

Mattel just solved this automotive heartbreak completely. Hot Wheels Brick Shop debuts authentic building versions of two Audi icons that changed everything. The RS2 wagon that launched Audi Sport. The R8 LMS that conquered endurance racing.

The RS2 Avant: When Audi Built Lightning in a Wagon

Picture this scenario perfectly. Audi calls Porsche in 1993. “Help us build the fastest wagon ever.” Porsche says yes. The result becomes automotive legend overnight.

The RS2 Avant packed serious punch through its turbocharged 2.2-liter five-cylinder heart. This engine screamed to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds. No wagon had ever moved this fast before. Porsche-tuned suspension kept everything planted during spirited drives.

But here’s what made it special beyond speed. The RS2 proved wagons could be genuinely cool. Wide fender flares housed massive wheels. Aggressive front spoiler announced serious intentions. Porsche 968 brakes provided stopping power that matched acceleration capability.

Only 2,891 examples ever left the factory floor. Each one represented Audi’s commitment to performance over practicality. The RS2 launched an entire generation of fast wagons that followed.

Hot Wheels captures this legend in 1:32 scale for $19.99. Four doors open independently showing interior details. The greenhouse roof lifts off completely. Period-correct Toyo Proxes R888R tires add authentic racing connection.

The R8 LMS: Racing Bred for Endurance Glory

The R8 LMS tells a completely different automotive story. This isn’t about daily driving but pure racing dominance. Seven overall Nürburgring 24 Hour victories prove its endurance credentials absolutely.

Audi developed the R8 LMS specifically for GT3 competition worldwide. The naturally aspirated V10 delivers consistent power through 24-hour marathon races. Advanced aerodynamics keep everything stable at 180+ mph speeds.

But racing success comes through details most people never see. Carbon fiber bodywork sheds every unnecessary ounce. Roll cage protection surrounds the driver completely. Racing seats and six-point harnesses secure everything during high-G cornering.

The LMS competes in IMSA, Blancpain, and countless racing series globally. Teams choose it because it wins consistently. Reliable performance matters more than peak horsepower in endurance racing.

Hot Wheels builds this racing legend in 1:16 scale for $49.99. The steering wheel actually connects to front wheels. Turn left and watch both wheels respond accordingly. Opening doors reveal stripped racing interior details.

Authentic Engineering Details That Matter

Both building sets capture automotive DNA through functional precision. The RS2’s opening windshields provide interior access impossible at this price. Customizable decals and OEM-licensed wheels maintain historical accuracy completely.

The R8 LMS delivers sophisticated mechanical features throughout. Removable greenhouse roof exposes detailed racing cockpit components. Interchangeable aerodynamic pieces mirror real team setup configurations.

These aren’t simplified toy versions but careful automotive recreations. Every proportion matches the original vehicles exactly. Hot Wheels metal authentication plates confirm collector-grade quality standards.

The Cars That Changed Everything

The RS2 Avant launched Audi’s modern performance identity completely. Before 1994, Audi built sensible cars for sensible people. The RS2 proved German engineering could create genuine excitement.

This wagon influenced every Audi Sport product that followed. The current RS6 Avant traces its DNA directly back. Fast wagons became an Audi signature because the RS2 showed the way.

The R8 LMS proved Audi belonged on racing circuits worldwide. Endurance racing demands reliability over everything else. Seven Nürburgring victories confirm the LMS delivers both speed and dependability.

Today’s R8 road cars exist because the LMS succeeded on track. Racing technology filters down to street versions. Every R8 owner benefits from lessons learned during 24-hour competition.

Why These Specific Models Matter

Mattel chose these two Audi legends for good reasons. The RS2 represents the birth of Audi Sport. No other wagon carries this historical significance in automotive culture.

The R8 LMS showcases Audi’s racing commitment through actual competition success. Seven Nürburgring victories speak louder than any marketing campaign. This car earned its reputation through wheel-to-wheel combat.

Both vehicles demonstrate Audi’s engineering excellence through different approaches. The RS2 proves everyday performance potential. The LMS shows what happens when racing becomes the only priority.

Together they represent Audi’s complete automotive philosophy perfectly. Build cars that work brilliantly for their intended purpose. Whether hauling kids or winning races, Audi delivers genuine capability.

Automotive Heritage Made Tangible

These building sets preserve automotive history through interactive experience. The RS2’s four opening doors reveal family-friendly interior space. Yet the performance hardware tells a completely different story.

The R8 LMS’s functional steering demonstrates racing engineering principles. Turn the wheel and understand mechanical connection immediately. This teaches automotive fundamentals through hands-on exploration.

Both models reward detailed examination over time. These aren’t static display pieces but functional automotive education. Every opening component tells part of each car’s engineering story.

What Mattel delivers here is pure automotive passion in building form. Two legends that shaped Audi’s identity forever. The RS2 that proved wagons could be cool. The LMS that conquered the world’s toughest endurance races. Now both legends fit on your desk without losing their automotive soul.

]]>

Chess sets have traditionally relied on color and intricate figurative details to help players distinguish between sides, but this approach often creates barriers for people with visual impairments or those playing in low-light conditions. Most designers focus on making chess pieces more ornate or visually striking, yet few consider how the fundamental interaction with the game could be improved through thoughtful geometric design.

What makes the +- Chess set particularly compelling is how it tackles these accessibility challenges through pure geometric logic rather than decorative solutions. By using convex shapes for one side and concave shapes for the other, this concept design creates instant visual and tactile distinction that works equally well whether you’re looking at the board or navigating the game entirely through touch.

Designers: Ana K. & Sandro Lominashvili (Integrated Architecture)

The pieces themselves follow a strict geometric vocabulary that feels both minimalist and purposeful. You get smooth, domed surfaces for the “+” side and scalloped, indented profiles for the “–” side. Each piece type remains distinguishable through height and form, but the real innovation lies in how the surface geometry immediately tells you which side each piece belongs to, whether you’re looking at it or feeling it.

Of course, the board extends this geometric thinking beyond the pieces themselves. Rather than standard flat squares, the playing surface alternates between convex and concave areas that mirror the piece design. This creates a sculptural quality that transforms the entire chess set into a cohesive design statement while providing clear tactile boundaries for navigation during play.

The tactile experience becomes especially meaningful when you consider players with visual impairments. The geometric differences make it possible to distinguish between sides instantly through touch alone, while the undulating board surface provides clear orientation cues. You can run your fingers across the pieces and board, understanding the game state without relying on sight, making chess truly accessible to everyone.

That said, the visual impact remains striking for sighted players. The interplay between the smooth and textured surfaces creates dynamic shadows and visual interest that elevate chess from a simple board game to a sculptural art piece. The monochromatic color scheme lets the geometry take center stage, emphasizing form over decoration.

The choice of 3D-printed PLA reflects modern manufacturing sensibilities while keeping the concept environmentally conscious. At 455 × 455 × 100 mm, the set maintains a substantial presence without overwhelming the space, making it suitable for both serious play and display. The material choice also ensures consistent tactile feedback across all pieces, which becomes crucial for the accessibility features to work effectively.

You’ll notice how every design decision serves multiple purposes, from the pure aesthetic appeal to the practical accessibility benefits. This kind of thoughtful integration shows how good design can enhance experiences for everyone without compromising on visual appeal or functionality.

The +- Chess set represents what happens when designers approach familiar objects with fresh eyes and inclusive thinking. It proves that accessibility and beauty aren’t competing goals; they’re complementary aspects of truly thoughtful design that make experiences better for everyone involved.

Sometimes the most brilliant ideas hide in plain sight, and LEGO’s minifigure toolbox accessory is a perfect example. That tiny red brick has been sitting in countless builds for decades, completely functional at minifig scale but utterly useless to actual builders. Enter luc.afol’s genius solution: an upscaled version that transforms this iconic accessory into something genuinely practical for Adult Fans of LEGO (AFOLs) and serious MOC creators.

What started as a simple scaling exercise has evolved into something far more thoughtful. This isn’t just a big version of a small thing, it’s a complete reimagining of what a LEGO designer’s toolkit should contain. The result is equal parts adorable and genuinely useful, packed with brick-built tools that speak directly to the pain points every MOC builder knows intimately.

Designer: luc.afol

The color sampler alone justifies this project’s existence. Anyone who’s ever stared at a half-finished build wondering whether “Medium Nougat” or “Tan” would work better will immediately grasp the appeal. The fan-style swatch collection displays all of LEGO’s 2025 solid colors with their official names printed right on each tile. It’s like having a Pantone book but for bricks, and the folding design keeps everything compact while remaining instantly readable. The construction is clever too, using white tiles as the base with perfectly aligned color samples that create a gradient effect when fanned out.

The brick-built ruler tackles another universal AFOL struggle: getting SNOT (Studs Not On Top) measurements right. The orange and black striped design immediately screams “construction tool,” and the scale appears calibrated for actual stud counting. Building complex geometric shapes or calculating offset measurements becomes much easier when you have a physical reference that matches your building medium. The alternating color pattern isn’t just aesthetic either, it creates clear measurement intervals that work intuitively with LEGO’s grid system.

Those triangle rulers deserve special attention for their engineering. Both the blue/gray and yellow/white versions use Technic pins to create working hinges, allowing them to fold and adjust just like real drafting tools. The mathematical precision here is impressive, as the angles appear designed around common LEGO geometry and Pythagorean triples that actually matter when building complex angular structures. The fact that they’re functional rather than static display pieces shows real understanding of how builders work.

Even the meta-humor elements serve a purpose. The included minifig-scale toolbox and tiny brick screwdriver aren’t just cute callbacks, they’re practical accessories for detail work and parts separation. The whole package stores neatly inside the main toolbox, which opens with a satisfying mechanical action that mimics real toolboxes perfectly.

The scale matching with upscaled minifigures is a nice touch that shows the creator is thinking about how this fits into the broader ecosystem of LEGO display and building culture. It’s big enough to be functional but not so oversized that it looks ridiculous next to your other LEGO elements.

If LEGO is smart, they’ll fast-track this one straight to production. Every serious builder needs better tools, and this toolbox delivers functionality wrapped in that unmistakable LEGO aesthetic we can’t resist! If you love this fan-made MOC (My Own Creation), head down to the LEGO Ideas website and give it your vote!

Fidget toys have come a long way from simple stress balls and spinners. These days, you’ll find everything from intricate sliders to complex mechanical puzzles designed to keep your hands busy. But 01EDC’s Slider-GameMackey takes the concept somewhere completely unexpected, transforming the humble fidget toy into a nostalgic gaming experience that fits right in your pocket.

One look at this thing and you’re instantly transported back to childhood afternoons spent hunched over handheld game consoles. The design is unmistakably retro, complete with a classic D-pad, A and B buttons, and even a “START” button for good measure. The upper section features an intricate maze that looks like it belongs on a vintage puzzle game, while the lower half mimics the familiar button layout we all remember.

Designer: 01EDC

The magic happens when you actually start playing with it. The side slider mechanism boasts 26 ultra-dense tracks that create the most satisfying gliding action you’ve ever felt in a fidget toy. Each button can be pressed independently, giving you that familiar tactile click of classic gaming controls. Then there’s the maze patch, where you can actually navigate a tiny ball through the labyrinth, adding a puzzle element to your fidgeting session.

What makes the Slider-GameMackey so addictive is how it engages multiple senses at once. The slider provides smooth, repetitive motion that’s perfect for stress relief, while the buttons offer that satisfying click we all crave. The maze challenges your problem-solving skills, turning mindless fidgeting into an engaging mental exercise. It’s like having three different toys rolled into one compact package.

Build quality is where 01EDC really shines. The metal construction feels substantial without being heavy, and the precision machining ensures everything moves exactly as it should. The edges are perfectly smooth, and the various colorways range from sleek metallics to vibrant translucent options. Some editions even feature custom engravings that turn the toy into a genuine collectible piece.

This isn’t just another desk toy that gets forgotten after a week. The Slider-GameMackey works equally well as a stress reliever during intense work sessions, a focus aid during long meetings, or simply as a conversation starter that shows off your appreciation for clever design. EDC enthusiasts will love how it fits seamlessly into their daily carry rotation.

There’s something deeply satisfying about rediscovering the joy of tactile play through such a cleverly designed object. The Slider-GameMackey taps into that universal love of buttons, switches, and puzzles that never really leaves us, no matter how grown-up we pretend to be. It reminds us that the best designs often come from combining familiar elements in unexpected ways.

Next time you catch yourself mindlessly scrolling through your phone during a break, imagine having this little gaming-inspired marvel in your hands instead. The most delightful distractions often hide in plain sight, ready to turn any ordinary moment into a playful adventure that fits perfectly in your pocket.

LEGO’s stranglehold on the brick-building world just got a serious challenge, and it’s coming from a direction most people weren’t expecting. While everyone’s been focused on knockoffs and cheap alternatives, a Chinese company called CaDA has been quietly perfecting their own take on premium building sets. Their latest release, a 1:14 scale Audi R8 Coupe 2019, isn’t just impressive for an alternative brand, it’s genuinely stunning by any standard.

This isn’t your typical “close enough” competitor trying to ride LEGO’s coattails. CaDA has built something that looks like it could sit right next to official LEGO Technic supercars and hold its own. The attention to detail, the build quality, and the sheer ambition of this set signal that the brick building landscape is shifting in ways that should have everyone paying attention.

Designer: CaDA

CaDA burst onto the scene in 2016 as part of the Double Eagle Group, but don’t let the relative newness fool you. They’ve been laser-focused on creating original designs that push boundaries rather than simply copying what LEGO does. While most alternative brick companies stick to basic builds or obvious recreations, CaDA goes after complex mechanical sets, licensed vehicles, and architectural marvels that require serious engineering chops. Their catalog reads like a wish list of builds that LEGO fans have been asking for but never got: detailed Japanese street scenes, intricate motorcycles, and now this beast of an Audi.

What makes CaDA different isn’t just their willingness to tackle ambitious projects, it’s their approach to hybrid building. This R8 perfectly demonstrates their philosophy, mixing Technic-style framework construction with smooth system pieces to create something that’s both mechanically interesting and visually polished. The result feels more like those ultra-premium LEGO sets that cost $400+ but with a price point that won’t require a second mortgage.

The R8 itself is a masterclass in automotive brick building. At 1:14 scale, this thing has presence, measuring roughly 14 inches long and packing around 1,600 pieces. The proportions nail the aggressive, low-slung stance of the real car, with a front end that captures the R8’s signature wide grille and razor-thin headlights. CaDA didn’t just approximate the look either, they secured official Audi licensing, so all the badges, Sport branding, and details are authentic.

The build technique is where things get really interesting. Instead of going full Technic with exposed beams everywhere, CaDA uses the structural framework as a foundation and then skins it with curved panels and smooth elements. The open sections above the doors and around the engine bay give you that peek into the mechanical complexity underneath while maintaining the sleek supercar aesthetic on the outside.

From a technical standpoint, the set includes working steering, opening features, and the kind of mechanical precision that Technic fans expect. The wheel design mimics the multi-spoke rims of the real R8, and the rear section features proper diffuser detailing and realistic exhaust placement. Even the interior gets attention with brown seats that actually look like premium automotive trim rather than basic brick approximations.

What’s really wild about this release is how it positions CaDA in the market. They’re not trying to undercut LEGO on price while sacrificing quality, they’re going head-to-head on premium builds with comparable complexity and superior value. Reports from builders suggest the brick quality is remarkably close to LEGO standards, with tight tolerances and good clutch power throughout the build process.

For LEGO, this has to be concerning. CaDA isn’t just making cheaper alternatives, they’re making desirable alternatives that fill gaps LEGO hasn’t addressed. When a Chinese startup can secure Audi licensing and deliver a set that looks this good at this scale, it suggests the brick building world is about to get a lot more competitive. The R8 proves that innovation and ambition aren’t exclusive to Denmark anymore.

Forget Flowers, Your Next LEGO Decor Piece Might Be This Stunning 1,257-brick Fruit Basket

I’m really stopping myself from making a ‘microplastics in my food’ joke but just look at this LEGO Fruits Basket and tell me it isn’t the cutest thing you’ve seen! Designed by LEGO builder Jagamax, this 1,257-piece kit contains an entire array of fruits, adding a pop to your interiors without any of the fruit flies. Just bury some potpourri underneath and you’ve got yourself a fruit basket that disperses the cool fragrance of fruity and floral notes around your apartment!

This fan-made submission to the LEGO Ideas forum makes for a great addition to LEGO’s existing Botanicals kit. Currently, the LEGO Botanicals kit is a nature-inspired series of LEGO bricksets designed to add flowers to your interiors. Some of them are gorgeous, and there’s a case to be made that the LEGO flowers are about as eye-catching as the originals, while never needing maintenance or watering. This Fruits Basket MOC (My Own Creation) is a lot like that too, giving your apartment a nice vibrant touch while also sort of making you crave fruits once in a while!

Designer: Jagamax

“I absolutely love the ‘realistic objects’ theme in LEGO, something we saw a lot during the first BDP in 2021 with sets like Pursuit of Flight, Sheriff’s Safe or Clockwork Aquarium, and more recently with the Antique Collection and LEGO Ideas sets like the Globe, the Typewriter, etc,” says Jagamax. “I think this set could perfectly fit right between that theme and the botanical collection!”

The bowl measures 22cm in diameter (or about 8.6 inches), and comes with an entire array of fruits. You’ve got a banana (with stickers), both red and green apples, a pear, both red and green grape clusters, two clementine slices, and a few cherries. Hilariously enough, Jagamax went the distance and detailed each fruit from the inside too, which means splitting a banana or apple across should reveal the flesh or the pit inside too! The bowl itself is fairly stylized too, looking like a classic porcelain vessel with glazed designs in blue and white.

Jagamax’s Fruits Basket is currently an entry on the LEGO Ideas forum. With over 2,000 votes, it’s slowly inching towards the 10k vote margin that will then send the entry to LEGO’s internal team, which will test viability for turning it into a retail box kit. If that does happen, think about how many new fruits we could see in the future! Mangoes, melons, pomegranates, strawberries, the list is quite literally endless! If you’d like to see this Fruits Basket become a reality, head down to the LEGO Ideas website and give it your vote.
