]]>

For a while now, if you were in the market for a high-performance home projector, XGIMI’s name was always part of the conversation. The company has carved out a serious reputation for building smart, incredibly bright projectors that deliver a premium experience without the esoteric setup of traditional home cinema gear. They have become almost synonymous with the idea of a “TV replacement” that actually works. It seems, however, that dominating the living room is a reputation they’re ready to evolve. Their latest announcement, the Titan projector, is a calculated, audacious move into the professional AV space, a domain typically walled off by legacy brands.

Think of it like Mercedes deciding to enter Formula 1, except XGIMI has been building the equivalent of AMG supercars in the home theater space for years. Their latest Horizon 20 Max pushes 5,700 ISO lumens with a 1ms response time, numbers that would have been unthinkable in a consumer projector just a few years ago. The Titan takes that expertise and scales it for boardrooms and event spaces. XGIMI is essentially saying “we’ve been playing it safe for your living room, but here’s what we can really do.”

Designer: XGIMI

Their home projector evolution tells the whole story. The Horizon series went from solid smart projectors to legitimate TV replacements, with models earning IMAX Enhanced certification along the way. Getting that IMAX stamp isn’t marketing fluff – it requires meeting strict technical standards for color accuracy, contrast, and processing power that most home theater equipment can’t touch. XGIMI’s Horizon Max became the world’s first IMAX Enhanced long-throw projector, which should have been a bigger deal than it was. When IMAX trusts your processing and optics enough to put their name on it, that’s not an accident. The Horizon 20 Max builds on this foundation with its MT9679 SoC and the largest RAM capacity XGIMI has ever used, plus dual-laser technology that delivers those eye-watering brightness numbers without sacrificing contrast.

The professional pivot makes perfect sense when you look at their technical foundation. XGIMI has been developing dual-laser engines, advanced AI processing, and high-lumen output for years. The Titan essentially takes these technologies and removes the consumer-friendly constraints. Where the Horizon 20 Max needs to fit in your living room and operate quietly, the Titan can prioritize pure performance. We’re talking 5,000 ISO lumens through a dual-laser system, native 4K resolution, and a 5,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio that puts most commercial projectors to shame. The 0.78-inch HEP imaging chip paired with XGIMI’s X1 AI processor handles real-time optimization that used to require dedicated technicians. Lens shift capability means flexible installation without image distortion, crucial for commercial environments where projector placement is often predetermined by architecture.

Commercial projectors have traditionally been boring, utilitarian boxes that prioritize reliability over innovation. Companies like Epson and Sony dominated through incremental improvements and enterprise sales channels rather than technical breakthroughs. XGIMI is approaching this market with fresh eyes and consumer-grade user experience expectations. Their AI processing automatically handles keystone correction, color calibration, and brightness optimization – tasks that typically require trained AV technicians. The Titan runs the same smart platform as their home projectors, which means firmware updates, app compatibility, and user interface improvements that commercial customers rarely see from traditional manufacturers.

This professional expansion reveals something important about XGIMI’s long-term strategy. Consumer projectors taught them how to balance performance with user experience, but those same technologies scale beautifully for commercial applications. Dual-laser light sources last longer and run cooler than traditional lamps, reducing maintenance costs. AI processing reduces setup complexity and ongoing calibration needs. Smart platform integration means easier content management and device connectivity. XGIMI essentially spent years perfecting these technologies in the more forgiving home market before bringing them to demanding commercial environments. The result is professional-grade equipment that operates more like consumer electronics, which is exactly what the commercial AV market needs.

The Titan represents XGIMI flexing muscles they’ve been building for years. While other brands focused on either home or commercial markets, XGIMI developed technologies that work across both segments. Their success in earning IMAX certification and pushing brightness boundaries in consumer products proves they understand demanding technical requirements. Professional customers get the benefit of that consumer-focused innovation, while home users get equipment developed with professional-grade standards. XGIMI isn’t just entering the commercial market – they’re showing everyone else how it should be done.

AKASO Is Making Military-Grade Color Night Vision Small Enough for Your Pocket: IFA 2025 https://www.yankodesign.com/2025/09/08/akaso-is-making-military-grade-color-night-vision-small-enough-for-your-pocket-ifa-2025/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=akaso-is-making-military-grade-color-night-vision-small-enough-for-your-pocket-ifa-2025 Mon, 08 Sep 2025 20:30:22 +0000 https://www.yankodesign.com/?p=577290

AKASO Is Making Military-Grade Color Night Vision Small Enough for Your Pocket: IFA 2025

It’s a peculiar human limitation, that our primary sense becomes almost useless the moment the sun sets. We, the supposed apex species, are suddenly clumsy and vulnerable, relying on artificial light that can sometimes be useful by giving us enhanced visibility, but also a liability by giving away our location. For decades, the solution was night vision, but let’s be honest, that technology always felt a bit detached, painting the world in an eerie, monochromatic green glow. It was a tool for soldiers and spies, offering a functional but sterile view of the nocturnal world. The experience was less about connection and more about surveillance, a grainy, discolored interpretation of a world that holds so much hidden vibrancy.

AKASO, a brand that has consistently made a name for itself by packaging high-end imaging tech into surprisingly affordable, user-friendly designs, seems to have taken this limitation personally. After their successful Seemor night vision binoculars, which raised an impressive $800K on Kickstarter, they are back with something more focused, more personal, and frankly, more exciting. The new Sight-300 is a digital monocular that promises to replace that sickly green tint with true-to-life color, effectively giving you superhero-level night sight. It’s a compelling proposition that aims to transform our nighttime experiences from something we endure into something we can explore with genuine clarity and wonder.

Designer: AKASO

The heart of the Sight-300’s impressive capabilities lies in its second-generation quad-core AI-ISP engine, which sounds like marketing speak until you understand what it actually does. This image processor cleans every frame in real time, stripping out visual noise while preserving detail and restoring color with up to 99% accuracy. AKASO combines a massive 1/1.79-inch CMOS sensor with an F/1.0 lens to gather enough photons to maintain color information even in near-total darkness. The system works in conditions as dim as 0.001 lux, roughly equivalent to a moonless night with only stars for illumination. For context, your smartphone camera typically struggles below 1 lux, making the Sight-300 about 1,000 times more sensitive to light.

The Sight-300 captures 4K footage at 30fps during daylight and maintains 2K resolution at 60fps after dark. The 8× digital zoom brings distant subjects closer, creating new possibilities for wildlife photographers and documentary makers who can now capture natural animal behavior without disruptive lighting. The wide 120-degree lens recording angle ensures you never miss action at the periphery, while the comfortable 60-degree eyepiece view keeps you spatially aware and immersed.

The helmet-compatible housing includes brackets and mounting rails compatible with standard action camera accessories. IP-65 water and dust resistance protects against light rain and dusty conditions. The hot-swappable 3,250 mAh battery allows for continuous operation, letting you swap in a fresh power source without shutting down. Wi-Fi connectivity enables live viewing and remote operation through a smartphone app, extending the device’s functionality beyond simple observation.

The Sight-300 boasts dual-scene mode for static and dynamic viewing methods. “Observation Mode” optimizes image clarity during stationary viewing with aggressive noise reduction. “Action Mode” prioritizes motion handling and stabilization, reducing blur during movement. This context-aware processing acknowledges that nighttime observation involves different scenarios with distinct visual priorities. The system adapts to your activity rather than forcing you to adapt to its limitations.

The societal implications extend beyond individual users to potential shifts in how we interact with and document the night world. Urban explorers can document spaces without harsh lighting. Astronomy enthusiasts can record telescope sessions with natural context. Wildlife observers can capture behavior without disturbing light-sensitive creatures. The democratization of color night vision creates entirely new content categories and scientific observation opportunities previously impossible to access.

AKASO plans to launch the Sight-300 via Kickstarter (price TBA), with first shipments expected in November 2025. Their previous success with Seemor binoculars, which raised $800K through crowdfunding, suggests they can deliver on ambitious technical promises. If the Sight-300 performs as advertised, we might look back at this moment as when seeing in the dark became as casual and commonplace as taking smartphone photos.

]]>

When you’ve been washing dishes the same way for decades, true innovation becomes almost invisible until someone shows you what’s possible. Ian Banes, Product Line Head for Dishwashing at AEG, spent four years deconstructing every aspect of how we clean our plates, from the physics of water droplets hitting ceramic to the behavioral differences between weekday efficiency and weekend entertaining. His team’s obsession with eliminating waste in the cleaning process has produced something genuinely transformative: a dishwasher that operates at library-quiet 35 decibels while using just 8.4 liters of water per cycle and achieving what they boldly claim is 100% cleaning performance in 90 minutes, no pre-rinse required.

The AEG New Favorit represents the kind of engineering breakthrough that happens when you refuse to accept that “good enough” is actually good enough. Rather than incrementally improving existing technology, Banes and his team started from scratch, questioning every assumption about spray arm rotation, water injection angles, detergent mixing timing, and even the behavioral patterns that dictate how we load our dishwashers differently on Tuesday versus Saturday night. The result challenges the fundamental compromises we’ve accepted in kitchen appliances, proving that quieter operation doesn’t mean weaker performance, and that sustainability innovations can enhance rather than limit functionality.

Banes explains that the project began with extensive consumer research that revealed significant gaps in the market. “We saw quite a lot of gaps in what the consumer needs versus what was actually on the market,” he notes, pointing to demands for more energy saving, water saving, shorter cycles, and better results. This research guided a development process that prioritized real-world performance over flashy features. The team spent years in test labs, conducting iterative testing to optimize every detail of the cleaning process. Their breakthrough came from recognizing that conventional dishwashers waste enormous amounts of water and energy by directing jets against the sides of the tub instead of the dishes themselves. This misplaced force creates unnecessary noise while contributing nothing to the actual cleaning process.

The solution required re-engineering the entire hydraulic system from the ground up. “If you’re putting water in too fast or too hard, then it can hit the side of the tub and not hit the side of the dishes,” Banes explains. His team worked obsessively on spray arm rotation patterns, nozzle geometry, and software timing to ensure that “every drop of water was going on the plates.” This precision targeting eliminates the waste that generates noise and consumes resources without improving results. By focusing water and energy exactly where needed, the New Favorit achieves its remarkable combination of whisper-quiet operation and dramatically reduced resource consumption while actually improving cleaning performance. The attention to detail extends to detergent mixing, which Banes describes as dependent on multiple factors: “It’s a combination of time, temperature, and the moment in the cycle when you do things.”

The SatelliteClean Pro spray arm represents the culmination of this engineering philosophy, achieving the bold claim of 100% burnt-on food removal in 90 minutes. “We’ve tested this externally, so we’re very confident in the claim,” Banes states, emphasizing that validation came from independent institutes rather than internal testing alone. The spray arm’s success lies in the precise coordination of rotation timing, water pressure, and nozzle angles, creating coverage patterns that reach every corner of the tub. This comprehensive cleaning power finally enables users to abandon pre-rinsing, a time-consuming habit born from distrust of older machines. The combination of advanced hydraulics, intelligent software, and external validation represents a genuine leap forward in cleaning technology that addresses one of the most persistent frustrations with dishwashers.

Banes and his team also recognized that loading patterns vary dramatically between weekday survival and weekend entertaining. During busy weeknights, families often rely on simple meals that generate basic cleaning challenges like oven trays from quick tray bakes. Weekends bring more elaborate cooking, wine glasses, and oddly shaped serving pieces that require different accommodation. The 4-in-1 FlexHolder system adapts to these behavioral patterns, standing upright to securely hold large oven trays during the week and folding down to cradle delicate glassware on weekends. The design philosophy extends throughout the interior, including a tub that’s available in both 82 and 87 centimeters to provide extra space for larger items without compromising standard kitchen dimensions. This flexibility reflects the team’s deep understanding of how real families actually use their appliances.

Sustainability considerations drove innovations beyond operational efficiency. The New Favorit incorporates 35% recycled plastic throughout its construction, a significant advancement that required overcoming substantial engineering challenges. “Complex engineering to get that right,” as Banes puts it, because recycled polymers behave differently than virgin materials, demanding new approaches to structural design and manufacturing processes. This commitment represents a holistic view of environmental impact that considers the entire product lifecycle, from raw materials through daily operation. The combination of reduced resource consumption during use and increased recycled content in construction demonstrates that sustainability can enhance rather than compromise performance.

When asked to identify the single most important innovation that users might not appreciate in a showroom demonstration, Banes points to the fundamental cleaning performance: “100% clean in 90 minutes.” While energy labels and noise ratings are visible on specification sheets, the true revolution lies in the daily experience of loading dirty dishes and retrieving spotless ones without any preparatory work. After four years of development and consumer research, Banes reports that the most rewarding moments at IFA have been the enthusiastic reactions from retailers eager to stock the new models. With production now ramping up and rollout beginning in Germany, the AEG New Favorit is positioned to quietly transform expectations for what a dishwasher can accomplish in modern kitchens.

XGIMI’s New Projector is So Bright, It Might Make Your TV Obsolete: Hands On at IFA 2025

]]>

For years, the great projector dilemma has been a story of compromise. You could have a massive screen, but you had to surrender to the darkness, drawing curtains and killing lights to get a picture that wasn’t a washed-out mess. They were for dedicated theater rooms, not for casual afternoon viewing or a spontaneous gaming session. The dream has always been a projector that behaves like a television: bright, sharp, and ready to go whenever you are, regardless of the ambient light pouring through your windows. It’s a simple ask, yet it has remained one of the most difficult engineering challenges in consumer electronics. A device that can throw a vivid 150-inch image in a sunlit room felt like a far-off fantasy.

It seems XGIMI was listening to our collective sighing, because they just walked into IFA 2025 and dropped a potential solution on the table with the Horizon 20 series. The star of this new lineup is undeniably the flagship Horizon 20 Max, a projector that reads less like an incremental update and more like a complete reimagining of what a consumer-grade projector can be. This isn’t just about making things a little brighter or a bit faster. The spec sheet suggests a device built to eliminate those long-held compromises, packing technology that aims to make the projector a legitimate centerpiece for any living room, day or night. XGIMI is making a bold statement, and it looks like they brought the hardware to back it up.

Designer: XGIMI

That staggering 5,700 ISO lumen figure is what really defines the Horizon 20 Max. For anyone unfamiliar with projector metrics, that is an immense amount of light output for a home unit. To put it in perspective, its predecessor, the already respectable Horizon S Max, topped out at 3,100 ISO lumens. This near-doubling of brightness is achieved through a potent combination of an RGB triple-laser light source and a newly developed X-Master Red Ring lens. In practical terms, this means the projector can cut through significant ambient light, producing a vibrant, saturated image even when the sun is out. It fundamentally changes the use case from a “special occasion” device to an everyday screen for movies, sports, and casual viewing.

Of course, a bright screen is only half the battle, especially for gamers. This is where the Horizon 20 Max throws down its second gauntlet: a claimed input lag of just one millisecond. Projectors have historically been a poor choice for competitive gaming due to their slow response times, but a 1ms figure puts this device in the same league as high-end gaming monitors. This ultra-low latency, combined with its sheer brightness and 4K resolution, creates an incredibly compelling package for console and PC gamers. The ability to play fast-paced titles on a massive screen without perceivable delay is a holy grail for many, and XGIMI appears to be delivering it in a single, well-designed box.

Visual fidelity extends far beyond raw brightness and resolution. The Horizon 20 Max is a true 4K projector, but its comprehensive support for modern imaging standards makes it a cinephile’s tool. It natively supports Dolby Vision, HDR10+, Filmmaker Mode, and is IMAX Enhanced certified. This ensures it can correctly interpret and display the latest content from streaming services and 4K Blu-rays, preserving the director’s original intent with accurate colors and dynamic range. To bolster this, the projector boasts a dynamic contrast ratio of 10,000:1 when its dynamic black level enhancement is active, promising deep blacks alongside its powerful highlights. This level of format support is critical for future-proofing and getting the most out of premium media.

XGIMI also packed in several thoughtful design features that elevate the user experience. The entire unit sits on a rotating gimbal, allowing for easy physical adjustments. More importantly, it incorporates both optical zoom and motorized lens shift. These are premium, professional-grade features that allow you to resize and reposition the image perfectly on your screen without physically moving the projector or resorting to digital keystone correction, which inherently degrades image quality. By keeping the adjustments entirely within the lens optics, the 4K image remains bit-perfect and sharp from corner to corner. Combined with XGIMI’s competent auto-framing software, it makes achieving a flawless setup remarkably straightforward for experts and novices alike.

The system is powered by Google TV, providing a familiar and robust smart interface with access to a universe of applications. Crucially, the Horizon 20 Max comes with Netflix pre-installed and officially supported, sidestepping a common and frustrating licensing hurdle that plagues many other Android-based projectors. For audio, a pair of 24-watt Harman Kardon speakers are integrated to deliver 360-degree sound. While it won’t replace a dedicated surround sound system, it’s more than capable for casual viewing or for use in rooms without a complex audio setup. This all-in-one approach reinforces its role as a streamlined entertainment hub.

Coming in at a retail price of $2,999, the Horizon 20 Max is certainly a premium product. However, when you consider its capabilities, the price begins to look quite reasonable. It is a device that functions as a high-end 4K home theater projector, a competition-grade gaming display, and a bright, user-friendly smart TV all at once. The early bird pricing of $2,399, which includes a floor stand and a game code, makes it even more tempting. For those who crave the scale of projection but have been waiting for the technology to overcome its traditional weaknesses, the Horizon 20 Max appears to be a powerful, thoughtfully engineered answer. It’s a legitimate contender for the center of a modern living room.

DJI Mic 3: Professional Audio Without Professional Complexity

Content creators face an impossible choice every day. Carry heavy professional audio gear for pristine sound quality, or travel light knowing your audio will disappoint viewers and damage your professional reputation. The Mic 3 eliminates this decision by cramming professional broadcast features into a lightweight transmitter system that delivers audio quality rivaling equipment costing thousands of dollars while maintaining the portability that makes mobile content creation possible.

Adaptive Gain Control prevents the audio disasters that ruin otherwise perfect video shoots by automatically managing volume spikes during outdoor events and providing smooth level adjustments for controlled indoor environments without the pumping or breathing artifacts that destroy amateur recordings. Multiple voice tone presets handle different vocal characteristics and recording situations, while intelligent noise reduction algorithms identify and eliminate background noise while preserving natural voice characteristics. The system includes everything needed for professional recording: wireless transmitters, receiver, charging case, windscreens, and magnetic clips that work with any clothing or equipment setup. Smart recording modes automatically detect and compensate for different acoustic environments, switching between indoor and outdoor optimization without manual adjustment.

The system works from extended distances without interference even in crowded wireless environments, and records everything to internal storage with advanced capability that prevents clipping even if levels spike unexpectedly. Extended battery life per transmitter handles all-day shoots without charging breaks, while the compact charging case provides multiple additional full charges for extended productions.

Advanced digital signal processing eliminates the frequency response limitations that plague analog wireless systems, delivering flat response across the entire audible spectrum without the high-frequency rolloff that makes cheap wireless mics sound muffled. The proprietary transmission protocol uses frequency-hopping spread spectrum technology to avoid interference from Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and other 2.4GHz devices that typically disrupt wireless audio systems. Each transmitter features a high-sensitivity omnidirectional microphone capsule with custom-tuned frequency response optimized for human speech reproduction. Built-in limiters prevent distortion during sudden volume peaks, while the automatic level control maintains consistent output even when speakers move closer or farther from the microphone. So DIGIERA just dropped a handheld that converts any game into 3D in real-time, costs two grand, and somehow thinks this is the moment 3D gaming makes its comeback. The audacity is breathtaking, honestly. While the rest of the industry is arguing about OLED versus LCD screens, these folks decided to reinvent the entire visual experience with a glasses-free 3D display that actually tracks your eyes and adjusts the image accordingly. It’s the kind of move that either marks a company as visionary pioneers or spectacular failures, with very little middle ground. But after digging into the specs and seeing the early demos from IFA 2025, I’m starting to think they might be onto something genuinely revolutionary.

The HoloMax represents everything wild about where portable gaming is heading right now. This device refuses to pick a lane, functioning as a tablet, a handheld console, and a laptop depending on how you configure its detachable parts. It’s powered by AMD’s latest AI-focused silicon, packed with enough RAM to embarrass most desktops, and somehow manages to cram all of this into a form factor that you can actually hold in your hands. The whole package feels like someone took a gaming laptop, a Steam Deck, and a holographic display from a sci-fi movie, then smashed them together with reckless abandon.

Designer: DIGIERA

At the very heart of this device is the screen, and it’s a technological marvel on paper. We’re looking at a 10.95-inch display pushing a 2.5K resolution, specifically 2560 by 1600 pixels, at a fluid 120 Hz refresh rate. The magic comes from its autostereoscopic technology, which works in tandem with real-time eye-tracking cameras. This allows the system to constantly adjust the 3D image based on your viewing angle, creating a stable and convincing sense of depth that doesn’t shatter the moment you move your head. It’s a far cry from the Nintendo 3DS, which had a notoriously narrow field of view. Powering this is the AstraDepth3D engine, an AI pipeline that handles the on-the-fly conversion of standard 2D games and video into 3D.

That impressive display is housed in a body that refuses to be just one thing. It’s a true hybrid, with detachable magnetic controllers that snap onto the sides for handheld gaming or come off for wireless play. The main tablet body, which weighs a substantial 870 grams, has an integrated kickstand and comes with a detachable keyboard, allowing it to transform into a compact laptop. The controllers themselves feature Hall effect joysticks and linear triggers, hitting all the right notes for a premium gaming experience. The whole package measures 374 by 171 by 15.9 mm, making it bigger than a Steam Deck but smaller than an ultraportable laptop, carving out a very specific niche for itself.

To drive that demanding display and its 3D conversion, the HoloMax is packed with some of the latest silicon from AMD. The top-tier configuration boasts the new 12-core, 24-thread Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 processor, a chip designed for high-performance mobile computing. This is paired with integrated Radeon 890M-class graphics, which should be more than capable of handling modern AAA titles at the screen’s native resolution. To keep everything running smoothly, it can be configured with up to 64 GB of fast LPDDR5 memory and a massive 4 TB of NVMe PCIe 4.0 storage. These are desktop-replacement level specs, and it signals that DIGIERA is targeting power users who want a single device for gaming, creativity, and productivity.

A powerful hybrid needs strong connectivity, and the HoloMax delivers a robust selection of ports. It includes a USB-C 4.0 port that supports both charging and external display output, a second USB-C port, a legacy USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 port for older peripherals, and a full-size HDMI 2.1 output. A 3.5mm headphone jack rounds out the physical connections, which is always a welcome sight. On the wireless front, it supports the latest WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3 standards. This comprehensive I/O means you can dock it to a full desk setup with a monitor, mouse, and keyboard without needing a clumsy dongle, reinforcing its role as a versatile, all-in-one machine.

Of course, all that power raises questions about battery life. The main tablet contains a 7,200 mAh battery, which DIGIERA rates for a modest 3.3 hours of gaming or a more respectable 10 hours of video playback. This is fairly typical for high-performance handhelds, but it means you will probably want to keep the charger handy. The detachable controllers have their own 650 mAh batteries, and an included 2,100 mAh bridging dock can be used to join them together for wireless play while providing some extra juice. The cooling system consists of a 4,200 RPM fan, dual copper heat pipes, and an aluminum heatsink, all necessary to keep the powerful components from throttling during intense sessions.

This kind of cutting-edge tech comes at a steep price. DIGIERA is launching the HoloMax on Kickstarter in October 2025, with pricing that firmly places it in the premium category. The three configurations carry “super early bird” prices of $1,699, $1,999, and $2,399. For those willing to put down a $30 deposit now, those prices drop to a slightly more palatable $1,499, $1,699, and $1,999. It is an expensive proposition, but DIGIERA is betting that the unique combination of a glasses-free 3D display, high-end performance, and a flexible hybrid design will be enough to entice enthusiasts who want to be on the bleeding edge of portable gaming technology.

Robot vacuums have become incredibly sophisticated over the past decade, mapping our homes with laser precision and navigating around furniture with impressive intelligence. Yet they’ve all shared one fundamental limitation that has kept them from being truly autonomous cleaning solutions: stairs. Every multi-level home owner knows the routine of carrying their robot vacuum between floors, defeating much of the purpose of having an automated cleaning system in the first place.

Dreame’s Cyber X, unveiled at IFA 2025, tackles this challenge head-on with what they’re calling the world’s first bionic QuadTrack staircase robot vacuum cleaner. The system uses four tank-like tracks that extend and grip each step, allowing the robot to physically climb and descend stairs while maintaining balance and stability. Advanced 3D vision sensors map the staircase ahead, planning safe routes and ensuring the robot doesn’t tumble down if it encounters an unexpected obstacle or irregular step.

Designer: Dreame

The engineering approach reveals thoughtful design thinking about the competing demands of stair climbing versus floor cleaning performance. Rather than compromising both functions in a single unit, Dreame created a modular two-part system where the actual vacuum robot docks inside a specialized carrier equipped with the QuadTrack climbing mechanism. This separation allows each component to be optimized for its specific task without the weight, bulk, or complexity penalties that would come from combining everything into one device.

The carrier essentially functions as a mobile elevator, transporting the vacuum between floors and providing a secure docking station for charging and storage. Once the carrier reaches a new level, the vacuum robot detaches to clean that floor using traditional navigation and suction systems optimized for lightweight, efficient operation. This modular approach also opens possibilities for future upgrades or different cleaning modules that could work with the same stair-climbing base, making the system more adaptable to evolving user needs.

For homeowners with multi-level spaces, the Cyber X represents the first genuine attempt at solving the stair problem that has limited robot vacuum usefulness for years. The system can handle various stair types, including standard residential stairs and some spiral configurations, though the exact limitations will depend on the final production specifications. The 3D vision and intelligent navigation systems are crucial for safety, ensuring the robot can identify suitable stairs and avoid dangerous situations like open railings or unstable surfaces.

What makes the Cyber X particularly compelling is how it addresses a real pain point rather than just adding features for marketing purposes. The modular design philosophy suggests Dreame is thinking beyond just this first-generation product toward a future where home cleaning robots can truly operate independently across entire homes. While the concept is ambitious and may face first-generation challenges around reliability and stair compatibility, it represents exactly the kind of bold engineering leap that could redefine what we expect from autonomous home cleaning systems.

Ecovacs has officially launched the Deebot X11 OmniCyclone, its most advanced and visually ambitious robot vacuum and mop, revealed at IFA 2025 in Berlin. More than a refresh, the X11 is a bold rethinking of what a home cleaning robot can be, with a unique bagless station, a wealth of new technology, and a focus on both style and sustainability.

The X11 OmniCyclone features a striking, architectural look and the brand’s first bagless, auto-emptying OMNI station. This move eliminates disposable dust bags, making cleaning more sustainable and convenient. David Qian, CEO of Ecovacs, highlighted the company’s roots in environmental thinking, explaining that the brand name was chosen to reflect ecological values and a dedication to vacuum innovation. “When we first started the brand, we always had this idea knowing the future needs to be sustainable,” Qian shared.

Designer: Ecovaccs

Ecovacs’ user-centered philosophy is at the heart of the X11’s design. The company always develops its products with real users in mind, striving to understand the lives, routines, and needs of the people who bring these devices into their homes. David Qian is personally committed to this approach, often visiting customers’ homes without revealing his identity to observe how Ecovacs products are used and to listen to honest feedback.

The X11’s design is a complete reinvention. The team departed from what Qian described as the “sandwich architecture” found in most robot vacuums. The result is a product that stands out in any store and immediately intrigues those who see it. “If you’re walking through a store, it will truly stand out. We wanted people to be curious about what’s behind the product,” Qian said.

Every detail, from the metallic finish to the sharp, geometric lines, was refined through extensive collaboration between design and engineering. “We really tried to make sure this product is able to fit into different types of home and furnishing styles,” Qian explained. “My philosophy is always to try to find the right balance between standing out and fitting in.”

The X11 introduces PowerBoost GaN fast-charging. Instead of waiting for a full recharge, the X11 quickly tops up its battery during short docking cycles, such as mop rinses. This means the robot can cover large homes with fewer interruptions and less downtime. The 6400 mAh battery, combined with smart power management, supports almost continuous operation in busy households. This is especially valuable for users with bigger homes and complex floor plans, allowing for longer and more flexible cleaning sessions.

The X11 is also built to conquer challenging spaces. Its TruePass Adaptive 4WD climbing system uses mechanical levers to adjust the wheels, so the robot can easily cross thresholds, floor tracks, and transitions up to 24 millimeters high. This feature is especially helpful in homes with a mix of flooring types or raised entryways, ensuring the robot can move smoothly from room to room.

The technical performance is equally impressive. The BLAST Suction system houses a 100W motor for up to 19,500Pa of suction, while the new OZMO Roller 2.0 mop uses reinforced high-density nylon and extends up to 15 millimeters to tackle stubborn grime. The X11 detects floor types automatically and adjusts cleaning power and mop pressure for each surface, delivering a deep clean on both hard floors and carpets.

Sustainability extends further than the bagless design. Ecovacs encourages users to take part in trade-in and repair programs, aiming to keep robots in use longer and reduce waste. “We have a repair program around the world. Very often, we want the customer to send the product to us so we can repair it and clean up little parts, increasing the life expectancy of the product,” Qian explained.

The Deebot X11 OmniCyclone is now available for $1,499.99 in the US and Canada. With its launch, Ecovacs sets a new standard for home cleaning by blending advanced technology, thoughtful design, and a clear commitment to both sustainability and real-world user needs. For anyone looking to upgrade their cleaning routine with something truly new, the X11 stands out as a compelling choice.

]]>

Every year, the tech world descends upon Berlin for IFA, and it’s always a fascinating look into what our homes will look like in the near future. While flashy TVs and wild concept gadgets often steal the headlines, the real innovation that impacts our daily lives is frequently found in the kitchen. This year, AEG is making a significant statement, showcasing a new lineup that leans heavily into artificial intelligence, specialized engineering, and premium design to solve real-world culinary problems. The German brand is clearly focused on making the kitchen a more intuitive and efficient partner, rather than a collection of passive tools.

From the press materials making the rounds, it’s clear AEG’s approach is twofold: refining core appliance functions to their peak performance and layering on smart technology that acts like an experienced sous-chef. They are bringing a suite of new products to the show, but three specific innovations are creating the most buzz. We’re seeing a dishwasher that promises to be nearly silent, an oven built to perfect homemade pizza, and another high-end oven with an AI-powered camera that learns your cooking habits. This is the kind of practical, forward-thinking tech that gets both home cooks and design enthusiasts excited.

AEG New FAVORIT Dishwasher Range – The Quiet Revolution in Dishwashing

AEG’s New FAVORIT dishwasher range is engineered to tackle the biggest annoyances of modern dish care, starting with noise. For anyone living in an open-plan home, the roar of a dishwasher can disrupt everything from conversations to movie night. The top-tier models in the 9000 series operate at a whisper-quiet 35 decibels, a sound level that is practically ambient background noise. This SuperSilent experience is achieved through a combination of optimized software and re-engineered hydraulics, making it possible to run a cycle anytime without creating a disturbance. This focus on silence is a direct response to how modern living spaces have evolved.

The drive for efficiency is another cornerstone of the New FAVORIT’s design. These machines achieve an energy rating 10 percent better than the EU’s top A-class, a significant feat for an appliance that runs so frequently. This is largely thanks to the new AquaSave system, an intelligent water control technology that uses as little as 8.4 liters per cycle. The system works by activating spray arms individually, distributing water only where it is needed at any given moment. This targeted approach minimizes water and energy consumption without compromising on the cleaning power needed for a full load of dirty dishes.

Of course, a dishwasher’s primary job is to get things sparkling clean, and AEG has invested heavily in performance. The standout feature here is the SatelliteClean Pro spray arm, which uses a unique double-rotation movement to ensure water reaches every corner of the machine. According to independent tests, this system achieves 100 percent removal of stubborn, baked-on food residues, like lasagna, in just ninety minutes. For more complex loads, the ZoneClean function allows for a single cycle to use different water pressures, powerfully cleaning pots in the lower basket while gently washing delicate glasses up top.

User interaction has also been completely rethought for the new range. The traditional button panel is replaced on integrated models with a sleek SmartSelect Connect touch interface. You can slide your finger to choose a cycle duration, and the display provides instant feedback on the energy and water usage for that selection. This control is expanded through a companion app, which offers loading advice, program selection support, and maintenance reminders. The app also unlocks specialized programs like GlassCare and an Extra Hygiene cycle, providing a truly personalized and modern dishwashing experience that puts control and information directly in the user’s hands.

AEG 7000 MealAssist – Professional Pizza, No Pizzeria Required

AEG is also turning its attention to one of the world’s most beloved foods with the 7000 MealAssist oven, which features the new PizzaExpert function. This system is designed to eliminate the common pitfalls of making pizza at home, such as soggy crusts and unevenly cooked toppings. The core of the innovation is a special cast iron tray that, when combined with the PizzaExpert setting, reaches an impressive 340°C. This intense heat allows a pizza to cook to crispy, chewy perfection in just two and a half minutes, simulating the conditions of a professional pizza oven and delivering restaurant-quality results.

The technology goes beyond just high heat; it acts as a digital guide for the entire process. An in-app assistant helps users perfect their dough and manage timing, removing the guesswork that often frustrates aspiring pizzaiolos. This guidance is mirrored on the oven’s EXCite Touch TFT display, which provides step-by-step instructions throughout the cooking process. Backed by an official approval from the prestigious Scuola Italiana Pizzaioli, the PizzaExpert is a dedicated solution for anyone serious about making incredible pizza at home, providing the tools and the confidence needed for success.

AEG 9000 ProAssist – An Oven That Sees What You’re Cooking

At the top of AEG’s new oven lineup is the 9000 ProAssist with SteamPro, a product that truly embodies the smart kitchen concept with its CamCook feature. This oven is equipped with an internal camera and an AI system that work together to recognize the food you place inside. It can identify dishes, learn your cooking preferences over time, and even remember online recipes you’ve used through the AI TasteAssist function. This allows the oven to suggest and initiate the perfect cooking program for your meal, streamlining the process for your favorite recipes with incredible ease.

The 9000 ProAssist is a versatile and powerful appliance, even without its smart camera. It offers several steam levels for everything from baking bread to gently cooking fish, along with a built-in sous vide function for precision cooking. The CamCook feature enhances these capabilities, making advanced culinary techniques more accessible to the everyday user. By combining high-performance hardware with an intelligent, learning-based software system, AEG has created a sophisticated cooking partner that actively assists in achieving perfect results, meal after meal.
