Indiana Gov. Pence Still Opposed To Online GamblingIndiana Gov. Mike Pence has long opposed both live gambling and online gambling. It is for this reason that he has vetoed a recent bill. The proposed bill HEA 1270 would have allowed bettors to deposit funds via ADW, then place pari-mutuel wagers online or via the phone.

While Gov. Pence vetoed this bill, he did allow two other bills to pass. According to Blood Horse, one would allow the Pokagaon Band of the Potawatomi Indians riverboat casinos to move on land, as long as caps and guidelines regarding maintaining their current footprint — with reasonable growth — were established.

The second bill Allows Indiana Horse Racing Commission members to increase their per diem and to increase funding for spreading the world about the horse raising industry in Indiana.

“Most Hoosiers know that I oppose an expansion of gaming in Indiana, but I recognize that gaming has become an important part of the economy of many communities in our state and is an important part of our state budget,” Pence said. “From early in the legislative process, I made it clear that I would not stand in the way of reforms that would allow these businesses to remain competitive with surrounding states so long as it did not constitute an expansion of gaming in Indiana.”
