Massachusetts Curtails Advancing iGaming AmendmentState lawmakers have curtailed – at least temporarily – the momentum of iGaming in the state of Massachusetts.

According to published reports on Monday, Massachusetts will likely not see an online gambling expansion this year.

“The Massachusetts Senate is currently deliberating the state budget and chose to reject State Senator Michael F. Rush’s budgetary amendment that would have allowed the state lottery to expand into certain forms of online gambling,” one local report reads.

The text of the Amendment indicates that Rush’s Local Aid Lottery Expansion would have opened the gates wide open for online gambling.

“The lottery commission is hereby authorized and directed to implement online games of skill, including, but not limited to, fantasy sports, so-called, poker, so-called, and other games of skill, subject to the provisions of, and preempted and superseded by, any applicable federal law. “

As of this writing, Nevada, Delaware and New Jersey remain the only states to have legalized online gambling, although Pennsylvania is expected to come next – certainly before Massachusetts.
