New Jersey Wants to Zero Out Unlicensed Online Gambling SitesAll right, license and registration please. Ok, there was nobody pulled over, but New Jersey wants to pull their gamblers away from unlicensed sites. Apparently, it is starting to work because, according to new polling data from Commercial Intelligence, fewer New Jersey online gamblers are frequenting those sites.

In a follow-up survey conducted in January NJ.com explains that Commercial Intelligence, “Polled 520 New Jersey online gamblers to get a better idea of the habits of the players in the market. What they found was significantly fewer players were using illegal, offshore sites in January.” They continue to say that the percentage of people who used these ‘offshore sites’ dropped from 24% to 16%.”

What will New Jersey do to keep the illegal gambling down? Well, for one thing, they sent out cease-and-desist letters to anyone they suspected of using or promoting these offshore sites. You can find a copy of this letter on Onlinepokerreport.com. This letter caused some of the sites to break away from any affiliation with New Jersey out of fear of legal ramifications.

The other way New Jersey will keep the illegal gambling down is a logical explanation NJ.com tells us. “If you don’t know about the illegal gambling sites and only sign up with the legal sites in New Jersey, you aren’t doing anything wrong.” It goes on to explain more of Commercial Intelligence’s findings in the article,“CI’s findings also indicated that more players have started gambling online since New Jersey’s regulated market went live. In January 36% of respondents stated they hadn’t gambled online before November 21, 2013 (the date New Jersey’s regulated online gambling industry launched); a number that has grown to 44% in June.”

Look out New Jersey, “Big Bucks! No Whammies!”
