Philippines Bill to Protect Minors from Online GamblingAccording to PokerUpdate, lawmakers in the Philippines have proposed new igaming regulations that would result in pretty significant fines for those who make it possible for minors to access online gambling sites and wager real money.

Rep. Samuel Pagdilao, an Anti-Crime and Terrorism Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) member, is leading the charge for reform, seeking a 5 to 10-year jail term or fines of up to 10 million pesos ($230,000) for licensees who “knowingly allow those underage to gamble online.”

Bill 4540 mandates that gambling operators in the region must become licensed through the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation.

According to the same report, there are presently no safeguards or penalties in place to curtail underage online gambling.
