Security was a high priority on the minds of vendors and presenters at last month’s 14th annual Global iGaming Summit & Expo.
One of the top security-focused standouts from the convention, however, was VASCO Data Security International, Inc.
The fast-growing provider of authentication, digital signatures, and identity management solutions came to the San Francisco-based event to showcase its newest authentication solutions for iGaming.
Eilers Research, a research firm focused on the global gaming industry, says the social-casino game market hit $2 billion in 2013. SuperData Research further estimates it will be $4.4 billion by 2015.
“Online gambling presents a unique set of security challenges for business operators,” a statement from VASCO ahead of the convention reads. “The involvement of significant funds and financial transactions makes it an attractive target for criminal hackers. In addition, players must be properly identified to satisfy location requirements (iGaming operators are typically required to ensure that players are within the boundaries of their state ) and anti-money laundering regulations.”
Today, VASCO says, the company provides on premise and cloud-based security solutions to no shortage of online gaming and legalized gambling service providers. We’re told they also secure over 8 million users worldwide.
“Just as in banking, static passwords simply do not provide adequate protection,” adds Martin Ahlers, Vice President of the MYDIGIPASS Business Unit at VASCO. “One-time passwords are far more secure as they cannot be reused and are only valid for a limited period of time, rendering them useless for fraud and money laundering.”
