California’s First Online Gambling Coalition Is LaunchedIn a recent announcement, Pokerstars shared that they have partnered with 5 California casinos to create a consumer coalition designed to encourage a fair and open online poker and online gambling marketplace.

The coalition is titled Californians for Responsible iPoker, and currently includes PokerStars, the Morongo Band of Mission Indians, the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, and the Commerce, Bicycle and Hawaiian Gardens cardrooms.

The timing of the coalition is also relevant, as Flushdraw notes. Its launch comes directly after California’s Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians released radio ads referring to PokerStars as “con men” and “scam artists.”

Regardless of the recent public attacks, coalitions of this nature are not a surprise in states that have already, or are seriously considering launching any form or legalized online gambling.

“The group (with its new Internet presence at Californians4ipoker.com) includes a call to action to Californian residents, who can register to receive updates,” reads the report. “In return, PokerStars will be able to demonstrate in state-level hearings the general consumer respect for both itself as a company and for the well-regulated and protected open-market policies the group promotes.”
