Canadian Online Poker Brand No Longer Marketing to and Accepting New U.S. GamblersThe competition is fierce for online casinos operating within states that offer legalized gambling—which is currently Delaware, New Jersey, and Nevada.

The U.S.-based casinos that are licensed to operate in these states invest a substantial amount in obtaining their licensing as well as in marketing their online casinos, and developing their online software.

Once these U.S. based casinos have secured the licensing for their territory, they are not pleased to hear when non-US based casinos infringe upon their territory. As it is, domestic online casinos have enough competition amongst themselves.

In a surprise move, Canadian based Bovada says it will no longer be accepting new online poker players from the state of New Jersey. From the company’s announcement:

“Our partner brand Bovada.lv has chosen to stop new account registrations for residents of the state of New Jersey. Existing account holders will not be affected. This is a decision they have taken of their own volition and they hope that their existing customers continue to enjoy all of the products and services Bovada.lv has to offer.”

However, we are told that those already signed up with the site can continue to play. Bovada will still continue to allow new U.S. players for their other offerings of online casino games, which includes sports betting and horse racing.

Bovoda was an affiliate site that received a letter from New Jersey Assistant Attorney General, George N. Rover, requesting that they discontinue accepting new users for their online poker.

The Department of Justice is still working out how to regulate online casinos not within the U.S.

While Bovoda was asked to bow out, they have still proven to be a safe and secure online gambling site, industry observers note.
