Casino Officials Profess Safety of Online and Mobile GamblingDespite the creation of some 150,000 new online gambling accounts in New Jersey since late November, there remain substantial segments of the population and, in particular, the gaming community that will not embrace real-money online and mobile gambling.

Security concerns – of a personal and criminal nature – are the primary culprits. Some fear fraud and identity theft. Others are worried about addictive personalities falling into the online gambling trap.

Tropicana officials are marketing to consumers the security of their solutions, procedures, and impressive track record on compliance and adherence to appropriate security protocols and measures to curb dangerous gambling behaviors.

“We’re completely PCI compliant, which is payment card industry compliant so basically all the data is encrypted, its safe just like you were going to the bank,” the General Manager of Tropicana Casino and Resort, Steve Callender, tells NBC news.

And it’s not just the security of your personal information officials focused on. With the convenience of online gaming, some worry about addiction. But casino officials say customers can limit their actions before they dig themselves too deep of a hole.

“You can control yourself online probably better than you can in a land-based casino,” said Callender. “Basically if you decide you only want to play for an hour a day, you can decide and once your hours up, you’re finished playing.”

Callender says gamers can also place limits on how much they are willing to spend online.

“If you get out of character, what your used to doing, it throws up a red flag for us,” said Callender. “If you play a lot longer or bet more money, we call in and find out if everything is ok and decide what to do from there.”

According to the same report, Tropicana officials say “they have not run into any problems” since online gambling commenced.
