A Downer for Delaware in Online GamblingBad news for the State of Delaware.

As one of just three states that have authorized online gambling in the United States, expectations for the revenue potential in Delaware (despite its relatively minuscule population) were strong in recent months. But that balloon has, at least for now, been deflated.

According to new data provided by the Delaware Lottery, the official online gaming numbers for the month of May 2014 are not promising.

In fact, the numbers confirm a sustained dip in online poker across the state.

“In May,” PokerFuse reports, “combined online poker revenue in the state of Delaware generated from the three licensed casinos totaled $57,470 representing a drop of $16,608—or 22.42%—from April.”

“The numbers are slightly more dramatic when compared on a per day basis,” the report concludes. “Daily online poker revenues in the state were $1,853.87 in May compared to $2,469.27 in April.”

It should be noted, however, that online gambling revenue does, indeed, show seasonal patterns with the early summer months being most notorious for declines in online poker traffic.
