Regulated online gambling is a bipartisan topic that is both is both strongly supported and vehemently opposed by numerous political power players on each side of the aisle.
While online gambling did not make the ballot of last week’s elections, those elected into office are sure to play a vital role in the likelihood of regulated online gambling being passed in the 47 states where such activity is presently not legal.
As Online Poker Report noted, Massachusetts did have a measure on the ballot that supported land-based gambling expansion, which many feel is directly related to the future of online gambling becoming a larger topic of conversation.
The new governor elect Tom Corbett in Pennsylvania is likely a loss for those in favor of online gambling, while the new governor elect in Illinois Bruce Rauner is in favor of land-based casino expansion—if not also online gambling.
By the time the next governor elections come around, there is sure to be much that has changed with regard to both land base and online gambling. And those changes could be accelerated further based on the outcome of the 2016 elections.
