How Many Jobs Would Legalized Online Gambling Create in the U.S.At a time when federal and state lawmakers are facing enormous pressure to support that which would create new jobs in new industries across the country, the public’s demand for more jobs could weigh on the minds of many legislators when it comes time to vote on the national legalization of online gambling.

Industry sources estimate that legalizing gambling will lead to approximately 22,000 new online gambling-related jobs, not to mention added federal and state revenue from associated taxes and profits on the casino and gaming operators.

Fox News reported today that predictions suggest that the “overall U.S. market could be worth as much as $9 billion in the coming years as other states, including California, legalize online wagering.”

In December, the CEO of the American Gaming Association testified before Congress to support the removal of a 7-year-old ban on Internet gambling.

“Prohibition simply does not work,” Geoff Freeman said during the hearing. “The federal government has tried the prohibition approach – specifically the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 and the Wire Act – and through multiple Justice Department crackdowns on offshore operators as well.”
