Marketers, Lobbyists Fighting for 'Fantasy' in Online GamblingWith the Super Bowl fast approaching, football, sports – and, yes, sports betting – are on the minds of many today. But with online sports betting and fantasy sports a popular practice of many, it’s understandable why potential federal legislation limiting participation in fantasy sports is meeting resistance.

With concern that federal prohibition of online gaming could “sack fantasy sports,” lobbyists and marketers across the gaming landscape are stepping up efforts to mitigate the likelihood of such legislation passing.

Just this week, the American Gaming Association’s President and CEO Geoff Freeman issued public comments  addressing rapidly increasing concern that a federal ban of online gaming could limit the right of Americans to participate in fantasy sports.

“Federal prohibition of online gaming is a threat to millions of poker players—and possibly tens of millions of fantasy sports participants,” Freeman said.

“Effectively regulating online gaming is the best approach to protecting state and individual rights,” he added. “Federal prohibition will create a black market for online games, strengthen the hand of criminals and lead to countless unintended consequences, including the possible extinction of fantasy sports.”
