mGamingWatch The Week’s Top StoriesHere are some of the top stories in mobile and online gaming that we’ve been monitoring in recent days.

With all the unavoidable chatter and corresponding buzz surrounding online gambling’s legalization in New Jersey, it’s hard to imagine anyone not familiar with this monumental development, let alone residents of New Jersey. But, apparently, a large number of New Jersey residents – we’re talking close to half – are oblivious to the looming arrival of iGaming in the Garden State.

Las Vegas has never been a town known for being meek and mild. But when it comes to Sin City’s embrace of mobile marketing – and, in particular, SMS marketing – some say that the biggest players in the casino and gaming industries are still far too conservative with their SMS strategies. While SMS success stories abound, there could – and should – be more of them. And with time, experts say, there will be. But the casinos, hotels, and resorts in Las Vegas need to step up their efforts.

mGamingWatch learned Wednesday that Skrill – one of Europe’s largest online payments systems – has been approved by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement and will be the only company to offer a digital wallet for regulated gambling in the Garden state. With the green light given, Skrill is now officially authorized to offer its services to gambling operators and enable online gaming in New Jersey.

With online and mobile gambling set to commence in the state of New Jersey in less than two weeks, ample questions remain with regard to how the arrival will play out for gamers and casino operators alike. This week, New Jersey is aiming to answer some of these burning questions.

As of early 2013, SMS was already well entrenched in the marketing mentality of casinos based everywhere from Las Vegas to  China. But the full potential of SMS (along with email and social media marketing) in the gaming industry isn’t close to being realized.
