New Casino Licenses Hope to Rescue Spain’s Online Gambling IndustrySpain is ready to pass out a slew of new casino licenses to help increase the online gambling industry in their country. According to Pokernews, “the decision will allow operators to apply for a license to offer online slots and betting products within the ‘dot-es’ market.”

If you’re unfamiliar, dot-es is to Spain what dot-com is to the U.S.

All told, this big news is something that will benefit gambling markets both new and old.

“Applications will be open both for operators currently in possession of a different DGOJ-issued license, as well as operators that are not currently active in Spain’s regulated online gambling industry,” the report clarifies.

Many of Spain’s gambling markets have been waiting for this news.

Many seem to believe that this may help them to deal with the decline of the country’s regulated poker market.

This decline is mainly due to high taxes and a 70% ownership of the market from Pokerstars.

Having these new licenses available also expands the market from being strictly poker.

“One way would be to start thinking about more comprehensive offers that include more than a single product,” says gambling specialist Agustinoy Guilayn, adding that “this would include the creation of multi-gaming gambling hubs able to offer legal online poker tables, as well as slots and other casino games.”

All of this expansion should keep online gambling in the country moving forward and away from illegal platforms.
