One Step Closer to Mobile Payments for Slot MachinesNo shortage of gaming and casino industry veterans believe that the day will soon come when a gambler will only need to wave his or her mobile device across the front panel of a slot machine in order to purchase their slot credits directly via the mobile channel.

The industry is already moving well beyond the traditional cash currency form of land-based casino gambling games. Just this week, the gaming world awakened to a new opportunity for plastic.

Prepaid debit cards — tied to a casino customer’s rewards account — have been approved for wagering on Nevada slot machines following changes in state gaming regulations.

According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the Nevada Gaming Commission voted 4-0  to approve the amendments, which come after advocates spent years lobbying for the use of traditional credit cards on physical in-casino gaming devices.

“We have significant cost associated with obtaining and handling cash,” says Station Casinos Chief Financial Officer Marc Falcone. “We believe that it is time Nevada gaming companies get the benefits of electronic commerce that have been available to other industries for several years.”
