RockYou Instantly Gains an Additional 2 Million Social Gamers By Acquiring So Called 'Dead' GamesSocial gaming has given birth to a wide variety of never-seen-before electronic games. The appeal to social gaming is strong. It is a way to pass the time, it is mentally challenging, and many games allow gamers to play against their friends, as well as other players near and far.

While most gaming companies are busy developing new games, RockYou has taken a completely different approach to social gaming. Instead of developing new games, they focus all of their energy on purchasing the older games that other companies consider to be “dead.”

For a game to be considered dead, Venture Beat explains, it does not mean that the game is without many active users, but that new growth is not occurring at a rapid rate. It is for this reason that RockYou purchased two social solitaire apps from MavenHunt. The two social solitaire games have over 2 million users combined — and growing.

“This doubles our daily active reach in the U.S.,” said Lisa Marino, chief executive of San Francisco-based RockYou. “We are excited about what we can do. We love casual casino games and this fits squarely in that space.”
