The Search for a New CEO Picks Up Speed at William HillBritish bookmaker William Hill announced this week that its outgoing chief executive will not leave the company before year’s end, giving the firm ample time to find a permanent replacement.

Ralph Topping, 62, has been with the bookmaker for four decades, becoming CEO in 2008.

The Times reported the company has hired Zygos, an executive search firm, to find Topping’s replacement amid indications that leading internal candidates are not ready to take over the publicly traded company.

According to the Las Vegas Review Journal, William Hill is actively looking at both internal and external candidates for the top job.

“Ralph Topping has previously indicated his intention to retire by the end of 2015,” William Hill said in a statement. “The board has an ongoing process to identify his successor from among both internal and external candidates.”

William Hill, a well-respected leader in online gambling in the United Kingdom, has been widely expanding its reach for some time, extending into the U.S., Spain, and even Australia in recent years.
