Is Social Gaming a Loop Hole For Online GamblingIt’s an interesting question. And one being asked with increasing frequency these days. Is social gaming a veritable loop hole for online gambling?

Every industry across the board is looking for ways in which they can increase their revenues via online and mobile. Within the casino and gambling industry, the debate around regulated online gambling is a hot topic for many land-based casinos and gaming tech firms. However, many casinos and gaming companies are thinking outside of the box and finding more ways to leverage social gaming as a source of revenue for traditional casino games.

While social games prohibit real-money gambling (and allow players to play for free) there are a multitude of ways in which social games can, in fact, be monetized.

This includes charging nominal fees for extra powers, extra lives when player turns run out, and the ability to play with access to more advanced features. While the revenue generated per social gaming sales averages between $.99 and $5, it is a small enough amount that many players are willing to invest.

The success of social gaming even has the likes of Atari looking at offering traditional casino games in the world of social gaming as a new source of online revenue.

“Thanks to convenience of playing on the web and the growing popularity,” reports VentureBeat, “some firms like Caesars are restructuring their debt, closing certain casinos and looking toward the future – be that online or in new locations around the world.”
