There’s a Policy Change for Google Play Store AppsGoogle is trying to tighten up policies of how apps provided in their Play store can interact with users. According to an article on cnet.co.uk, the rules will prohibit apps and the advertisements within those apps from making changes to the users mobile device or creating pop-up notifications for third party advertisers. The CNET article notes that while there will be less interference from apps this will likely lead to less free apps.

Another major part of the policy change is payment within apps. The payment end also relates to apps that could be construed to promote gambling. Of this matter the cnet article writes, “The gambling policy has been extended to all games that offer cash or other prizes, and you can only be charged through Google Play’s in-app billing service.” This move is aimed towards making the apps in their Play store more trustworthy.

A blog on the website online-casinos.com further notes the changes Google is making to gain the users confidence when downloading their apps by adding this commentary from Google, “Google says it will not allow any app that positively reinforces online gambling for cash or other illegal activities, and it has also banned, ‘unauthorized publishing or disclosure of people’s private and confidential information.”

It would appear that Google is trying to make their Play store more family friendly. But it also appears to be a matter of safety, as the online-casino blog also mentions a past incident where a thievery transpired in a bitcoin wallet due to an android security flaw. It will be interesting to see how these policy changes shape Google’s Play store.
