World Cup Increased Online Sports Betting For William HillOne of the many advantages to online and mobile sports betting is that gamers can quickly and easily place their bets from anywhere with Internet access—even when on the go.

When it comes to large and global tournaments such as the FIFA World Cup, online is changing the online sports betting industry. As of August 1st, the mobile bookmaker William Hill was up by 7 percent, which is quite impressive because they had been lagging in the first half of the year.

It is the ability to place online bets during the World Cup that has made all the difference.

“William Hill said betting on the World Cup was 80 per cent up on the last tournament in 2010 on a like-for-like basis, boosted by improvements in online betting with 60 per cent of wagers made via mobile devices,” reports Natalie Wain of This is Money.

All told, their online bets tripled from the same time period in 2013, while overall sports betting has grown by 41 percent. There were over 20.2 million bets placed during the tournament, which resulted in £227million—just during the World Cup. The game with the most bets (over 1 million) was the final game between Germany and Argentina.
