Zynga Still Fighting For The Top Spot In Mobile GamingAs creators of some of the most addictive online and mobile games of all time, Zynga established itself as the leader of social gaming. With over $1 billion in revenue, and over 85 million active gamers worldwide, Zynga has certainly achieved great success. However, as more gamers are turning to their mobile devices to game on the go, Zynga has been overshadowed by mobile gaming giant King.

King’s hit games, such as Candy Crush Saga, have dominated the top spots of the mobile gaming industry. In fact, Zynga hasn’t even made the top 20 mobile gaming list with any of their latest games. Not to be discouraged, Zynga is getting ready to unveil three updated mobile versions of their smash hits Words With Friends, FarmVille 2, and Zynga Poker.

They have been working on perfecting these games for many months to ensure that they will capture the attention of their previous social gamers, as well as attract new attention from mobile gaming fanatics.

Zynga has a long way to go to close the gap between their success, and King’s success. Currently, King is able to operate with approximately 660 employees and generate an average of $2.83 million in revenue per employee, compared to only $333,000 and revenue per employee of Zynga’s 3,000 employees at the peak of their success in 2011.

Zynga’s history is a shining example of a company skyrocketing to success and generating over $1 billion of income within its first 5 years. Yet watching as their customers and revenues began to wane with the increase in popularity of mobile gaming, some have to wonder if Zynga’s best days are now in the rear-view mirror.
