Expedia Acquiring Travelocity for 280 MillionOn Friday, news came from Expedia that the company has just reached a mammoth deal to acquire travel booking behemoth Travelocity, which now boasts of 20 million users monthly.

The deal is worth a reported $280 million in cash and comes after a protracted and positive marketing and tech partnership first announced by the companies two years previously.

As a result of the buyout, the prominent Travelocity brand joins a stellar portfolio of platforms owned and operated by Expedia, including Hotwire, Hotels.com and CarRentals.com.

“The strategic marketing agreement we’ve had in place has been a marriage of Travelocity’s strong brand with our best-in-class booking platform, supply base, and customer service,” says Dara Khosrowshahi, chief executive of Expedia. “Evolving this relationship strengthens the Expedia Inc. family’s ability to continue to innovate and deliver the very best travel experiences to the widest set of travelers, all over the world.”
