Southern Gaming Summit Aims To Revive Gambling In The State of MississippiThe Mississippi Gaming and Hospitality Association is hosting the Southern Gaming Summit at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum and Convention Center in Biloxi May 6-8th. The summit has attracted the attention of industry leaders within the gaming and casino industry from around the nation.

All in all, over 100 vendors will participate in the two-day gaming Summit, which began yesterday. They will provide tools and resources such as the most innovative and successful ways of marketing, as well as the latest games on the market.

While the gaming summit is designed to spark innovation for casinos near and far, Mississippi is hoping that they will walk away with new insight to help revive gambling within the state. Currently Mississippi has 30 state regulated casinos, and one casino on an American Indian resort. However, the gaming industry within the state of Mississippi has suffered major decline over the last eight years, which can be attributed to the recession, Hurricane Katrina, and the 2011 Mississippi River Floods.

Many of the casinos in the state have implemented multimillion dollar renovations in response to natural disasters and are exploring a multitude of innovated methods. Their goal is to increase tourism and in turn increase their declining revenues. The southern casinos struggling the most to recover from the events of the past eight years include those in Mississippi, Louisiana, Florida, and Alabama.

As a whole the Gulf Coast gaming industry has seen a slight increase within the first quarter of 2014, however Mississippi casinos have seen a decrease of 5% during this same quarter. Attendees hope to walk away inspired and with the information and resources they need to recapture their lost momentum and money.
