California Inching Closer to Legalized Online PokerIt appears that California state senator Lou Correa (D-Santa Ana) has amended a legislative bill to include the legalization of online poker in the state of California.

An article on PE Bloggers notes that there are only three weeks left before the legislative year comes to a conclusion and that it is the second bill to be introduced to legalize online gambling.

As for Correa’s amendment, PE Blogger also mentions that there are some missing details like the cost of the licenses and how much revenue those possessing a license would owe the state.

Also, there is concern regarding whether the tribal gambling industry will allow this bill to pass as it has created problems in the past. It seems that various tribes are working on their own proposals.

An article in the Los Angeles Times points out that Correa has confirmed the support of the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians but holds the opposition of several other tribes including the California Tribal Business Alliance. The Times article has a skeptical tone about whether Correa’s bill will actually pass. They quote a California Tribal Business Alliance spokesman, David Quintana, as saying, “That bill is not going to move.”

Though we may not know for sure until three weeks has passed, it does not look promising for Correa or online poker in California.
