In a clear rebuff of the online gambling breakthroughs observed this year in New Jersey, Delaware, and Nevada, residents of Pennsylvia aren’t eager to add their state to the short list of those where online gambling is now legal.
A new poll shows Pennsylvanians are largely against it.
The new Quinnipiac Poll cited by CBS News shows residents oppose online gambling 55-percent to 37-percent.
“Pennsylvanians like gambling where it is right now,” Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute, said. “What we have is fine. But they don’t want it in their backyard, and they don’t want more casinos, and they’re also concerned about online gambling. They believe online gambling could lead to greater addictions.”
Additionally, and perhaps most important politically, 62 of state voters oppose legalizing online gambling.
