The UK’s Gambling Regulator Issues WarningNews from across the pond indicates that the UK’s gambling regulator has issued a warning to the nation’s largest internet service providers, including BT and TalkTalk.

The Financial Times reports that the regulator wants British consumers to be well aware of the illegality of unlicensed gambling websites.

The Gambling Commission purportedly asked the big ISPs for the insertion of splash pages when a customer is trying to access an unlicensed gambling site, Gigaom summarized on Tuesday.

The ISPs, however, have been less than receptive to such requests.

“We do not believe that it is for ISPs to decide what content customers should access,” a spokesperson for TalkTalk says. “It is really important that there is either a proper legal framework when it comes to blocking access to sites, just like with copyright infringement, or that it is down to customer choice.”

The British government is showing increasing signs that it will do whatever it takes to restrict access to unlawful online gambling sites and platforms across the United Kingdom.
