The teenage hacker who intercepted $50,000 a month from online gambling site money transfers has been arrested by authorities in Argentina.
The 19-year-old hacker was purportedly the leader of a gang that used malware to infect computers involved in the transmission of payment transactions between gaming sites and customers.
The perpetrators used a collection of computers that prevented the victims from accessing their accounts during the operation.
To preserve evidence in the case, authorities cut the power to the teen’s neighborhood prior to taking him into custody.
Police investigated the hacker for about a year and discovered that the teenager organized the crimes from his bedroom.
There is no word on what whether the accomplices in connection with the hacker will be taken into custody.
