Congressional Subcommittee Takes Up Issue of Online GamblingAlthough online gambling is not yet legal nationwide, most expect that to change well before the end of this decade.

Moving incrementally slower toward that prospetive eventuality, a congressional hearing on the state of online gambling took place in the nation’s capitol today.

The hearing was called by the House Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade.

According to the AP, American Gaming Association President Geoff Freeman praised the hearing as timely and indicative of leadership.

It goes without saying that the AGA supports a national regulatory structure for real-money online and mobile gambling.

So far this year, a handful of bills that would permit more widespread online gambling – or at least clear the way for states to proceed without interference from the Federal Government – have been introduced but not acted on in Congress.
