Here’s What’s Happening in mGamingHere are some of the top stories in mobile and online gaming that we’ve been monitoring in recent days.

On Tuesday, the American Gaming Association issued a statement and helpful information to gaming industry colleagues and professionals regarding the current high-stakes drama playing out in the nation’s capitol. “As you’ve no doubt heard, Congress failed to reach an agreement on funding for the federal government and all non-essential functions entered a ‘shutdown’ as of midnight this morning,” the AGA says.

This week, the team at Poker777 reported on the growth surge of the online gambling market, which includes poker, casino games, and sports betting. According to consulting firm H2 Gambling Capital, online gambling generated 25 billion euro or more than 33 billion U.S. dollars in 2012.   This was a 7.2% jump from 2011.  Online casinos accounted for 17% of the margin, while online poker continued its downward trend to 13%.

Zynga has officially withdrawn its gambling license application in Nevada, a move which reinforces the company’s recent shift away from real-money gambling. Station Casinos has been the first company to take advantage of recent legalization of online gambling in the state.  Delaware and New Jersey have similar legislation in the works.

According to the findings of a new study released by The American Gaming Association, Americans spent $2.6 billion on gambling websites last year. The AGA is touting the study’s findings to help provide further impetus for Congress to step in and regulate this enormous market at the start of what could be a monumental growth period.

Online poker player Chris Moorman has broken $10 million mark for tournament winnings.  Over the weekend, Moorman won a $215 buy-in tournament for $9500 that helped him reach the milestone. In addition to being the first poker player in history to make the claim to $10 million, worldwide he has been ranked #1 in online poker nearly 20 times.   In September, Moorman achieved the #1 online player rank in the United Kingdom.
