Mississippi Doesn't Want to Miss Golden Opportunity in iGamingOver the weekend, a report from the SunHerald revealed that Mississippi’s chief gambling regulator is taking charge of a group that “will gather data on how Internet gambling and sports betting are working other states.”

Ostensibly, the goal is to evaluate whether online and mobile gambling is right for the State of Mississippi.

The report lists Allen Godfrey, executive director of the Mississippi Gaming Commission, as the chairman of the aforementioned task force.

Mississippi State Rep. Richard Bennett, who serves as chairman of the House Gaming Committee, requested that Godfrey take charge within the group in order to explore – with an unbiased eye – whether or not the online digital gambling market is right for their State.

Among the things Godfrey said he wants to study are whether the software for online gambling sites works as well as it claims to, and how it is working to keep people from out of state off the sites — something that is required by current laws.

This exploration is to begin immediately and well ahead of next month’s Southern Gaming Summit which takes place in Biloxi, Mississippi.
