Online Gambling Means New Jobs for New JerseyIt’s a basic fact in business: new industries bring new jobs.

In New Jersey, online gambling is a highly promising new industry. And it’s going to spark a job-creation wave across the Garden State.

According to a new report from Press of Atlantic City, Internet gambling is posed to bring “hundreds, if not thousands” of new jobs.

But unlike the cocktail servers, bartenders, blackjack dealers, cooks, housekeepers and other service-oriented positions that have dominated the casino industry in the past, many of these new jobs will be in information technology.

With such emerging heavyweights in the space as PokerStars, Bwin.party, 888 Holdings, and 2UP Gaming lining up to enter the New Jersey online gambling market, these companies will need to augment their teams quickly and soon.

“All of the jobs I’m talking about are absolutely New Jersey jobs,” explains William J. Pascrell III, a state lobbyist representing PokerStars. “That (job growth) was a major impetus for the sponsors in the Legislature. In addition, I believe that is what brought us over the goal line for Gov. Christie.”

Monday’s report notes that the new jobs – not to mention hundreds of millions of dollars in projected new revenue – will help to revitalize Atlantic City, which has lost tremendous market share in recent years to casinos in nearby states.
