Texas Gov. Talks Tough on Online GamblingOnline gaming firms and casino marketers may not want to get their hopes up about Texas.

As it turns out, everything is bigger in Texas – including opposition to real-money online and mobile gambling.

Unlike other U.S. governors and state legislatures, where the issue of online gambling appears to be winning more favor, Governor Rick Perry is steadfast in his view.

In an op-ed piece last week, Perry says Internet-gambling supporters are wrong in their push to seek new federal oversight just to make it legal in the U.S.

Les Bernal of the group Stop Predatory Gambling is quoted by local news sources at KTRH saying that the governor is right in his view.

“Why would we want government, whether it’s the federal or state government, actively encouraging citizens to lose their money?” Bernal reportedly said.

In his opinion piece, Governor Perry went one step further, insinuating that legalizing Internet gambling might spark a new breed of “government cops.”
