Vietnam Busts Illegal Online Gambling RingThe Ministry of Public Security police in Vietnam arrested several members of an illegal internet site operating at the domain name of 188bet.com. According to online-casinos.com, the names of the perpetrators include ring leader Vuong Chan Thanh, 37, his wife, Dam Kim Khuyen, 34, and three other accomplices who are in the 34-35 year-old age range.

The raid on Thanh’s house resulted in the confiscation of thousands of American dollars, machines, equipment, and the books for gambling accounts.

The Ministry is reporting that the materials gathered indicate that 188bet.com has brought in the equivalent of about 23 million US dollars as of August of this year.

188bet.com has allegedly been used since 2010 and accepted international bets. According to an article on thanhniennews.com, the site had card games and took bets on sporting events like horse racing and soccer. The site required gamblers to transfer money to the site to be used to create “points” to gamble. The chief of the ministry’s social crimes investigation department,
