C4COP Formed to Support Regulated Online GamblingAccording to Chris Grove of Online Poker Report, a new advocacy group has been formed to defend regulated online gambling in the United States.

The group in question, the Coalition for Consumer and Online Protection – or C4COP – boasts a number of prominent public figures, including former Congressional representatives Mary Bono and Mike Oxley.

The C4COP claims to represent “the voice of public-‐safety advocates, business leaders, technology leaders, state-‐ and federal-‐elected officials, the gaming industry, and the millions of Americans who would be adversely affected by a ban” on regulated online gambling in the U.S.

By their assessment, banning this regulated market “would jeopardize consumer safety, allow for the existing overseas black market to thrive, stifle innovation and growth, and infringe on individuals’ and states’ rights.”

With well-financed forces inside of the old-school gaming world looking to protect their physical properties from a loss of revenue at the hands of digital gaming upstarts, the C4COP plans to oppose these groups on the strength of their argument that a federal ban on online gaming would have unintended negative effects for Americans by encouraging illegal online gambling.
