Delaware Deals a Winning Hand for Poker’s FutureAs Delaware inches closer to going live with real money gambling, they are gearing up with various efforts to promote and prepare.

A few weeks ago they went live with free online games provided by Casino at Delaware Park, Harrington Raceway & Casino, and Dover Downs Hotel and Casino.

According to Yahoo News, Delaware Lottery Director Vernon Kirk recently explained why they enacted free games first.

“A lot of work has been going on over the past several months in order to allow the Delaware State Lottery to take this first step in providing a virtual casino for our customers,” Kirk said. “This is great opportunity for our patrons to get acclimated with the way Internet gaming works in preparation for the launch of the first-in-the-nation full casino-style legalized online gaming.”

Another step toward getting prepared was a live poker tournament at the Dover Downs Hotel and Casino, which saw 206 contestants with $108,150 in total prize money. It started this past Saturday and ended Sunday morning when David Tarantino claimed the crown and won approximately $20,000.

The live tournament appears to be a warm up for when real money online poker begins in Delaware – possibly as early as October.
