France Doesn't Want to Play Poker with NeighborsDespite international calls for increased cooperation among nations where online and mobile gambling are permitted by law, France has drawn a definitive line in the sand on this matter.

PokerUpdate confirmed Friday that the French government has rejected a request from the nation’s top gaming regulator to permit French online poker player pools to connect with gaming pools of other European nations.

Hopes of facilitating an increase in liquidity were behind the request which was effectively shot down this week.

ARJEL, the gaming regulator of France, put forward the idea after constant decreases in player numbers and overall gross revenues for French-based online poker and gaming operators. However, that idea was rejected outright by the country’s government, which contains a number of figures who are against online gambling.

The rejected proposal comes at a time when the French online poker market is struggling.

According to the same report, online poker revenue in France dipped by as much as 17 percent in the third quarter of 2013 alone.
