Here’s What’s Happening in mGamingHere are some of the top stories in mobile and online gaming that we’ve been monitoring in recent days.

On Monday, Reuters reported that revenue in Macau rose more than 17 percent in August compared to the same time last year.
According to government data, the $3.8 billion generated in August was the second highest for the year.  The growth met analysts predictions.

Over the weekend, ReviewJournal.com covered a story about Bill Lerner and Rich Moriarty and how they brainstormed the initial business plan for Union Gaming Group.  They came up with the original idea five years ago in New York City over dinner to become an investment bank and securities company focused on the worldwide casino industry.

According to a report from the International Business Times, the U.K. spends the equivalent of $4 billion (more than £2 billion) on online gambling annually.  This is an increase since 2008 of roughly 80%.  Over the next four years, it is expected to grow more than 30%.  However, a report for online searches shows that gambling terms have been searched for less, while smartphone-enabled gambling app usage has shown an increase.

The Courier-Journal of Louisville, Kentucky is reporting that Churchill Downs Inc. may create dozens of new jobs that pay an average salary of $100,000 due to its expanded online gaming ambitions. The casino and racetrack company received Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority approval this week for $1 million in tax incentives to create these new well-paying positions.

Failing to pay a gambling debt could now result in public shame and infamy inside the world’s most populous nation. Gamblers who fail to pay off their casino debts in Macau could be exposed publicly by a website that, through a degree of public shame, has helped to recover millions in previously unpaid debts.
