Zynga has officially withdrawn its gambling license application in Nevada, a move which reinforces the company’s recent shift away from real-money gambling.
Station Casinos has been the first company to take advantage of recent legalization of online gambling in the state. Delaware and New Jersey have similar legislation in the works.
Former Xbox Division President, Don Mattrick, now CEO of Zynga, has chosen to refocus the company’s attention on improving its free-to-play social game repertoire and move away from real-money gambling in the U.S for the time being.
In July, the company stated: “Zynga is making the focused choice not to pursue a license for real money gaming in the United States. [However] Zynga will continue to evaluate all of its priorities against the growing market opportunity in free, social gaming, including social casino offerings.”
In the release, Zynga reiterated that the shift has no effect on its real-money gambling ventures in the United Kingdom.
